Eh... depends on where you go. For example, I have incurred the wrath of other Trek fans more times then I can count because I refused to shower the show with unconditional praise or pointed out problems with the story. Not arguing with you on the fact it's not well liked though, as its RT score is sitting at a much deserved 56%.

I have a theory on why this over defensiveness that I mentioned above exists: Fans of a franchise will become incredibly defensive for a show if it becomes popular and sheds more light on the franchise. I've seen it happen with Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans (Even though, much like Discovery, it's crap), the most popular Gundam series since Wing in the 90's.
