man why is the machine race in these scifi shows always bad guys? Cant we have more Transformer races? Where are my Optimus Primes at in the galaxy? We need more good guy machine races in sci-fi. And not "Oh they were evil but got an upgrade later", but they have been prominently benign. What scifi shows do we have where thats even true?

If you want stuff like the transformers might I recommend childrens hour? Saturday morning should be right up your alley...

Nah, we can adapt. We'll have casualties and life will suck for generations but humanity will carry on. Nature won't do us in. But with AI, it's guaranteed no matter what.

So, anyone else see the premiere of Strange New Worlds? I was very pleasantly surprised, seems to have much more of an "old Trek" feel to it which is definitely appreciated.

I think a good series to compare STP to would be The Expanse's latter 1/2.

On one hand, we have a season that masterfully weaves character growth/progression and political idealism into a story about humanity having to face and rise above the worst of itself in order deal with a threat they thought they were above and sets up a strong foundation for the next season to build off of and pay off with, and on the other hand, we have Star Trek Picard season 2 which spent 10 episodes burning $10,000,000 per episode to result in absolutely fuck all.

Also, The Expanse season 5 was able to do all that with only 1/2 the budget of STP.

It was due to a new age of capitalist and fascist oligarchs trying to impose an age of renewed Imperialism and Neo-Colonialism.

Which is actually incredibly topical for an idea posited in the 60's.
