3. Why is it that Starfleet officers are so weirdly inconsistently ignorant of history sometimes? Like in the “Big Goodbye”, which I recently watched, why was it that people were vaguely aware of the 1940s and gangsters having existed... yet were like “car? What is a car?”... even though the car existed before and long after the period in question and the word as used to mean wheeled vehicle has been used before automobiles were invented and probably will be for long afterwards ?

1. What, properly speaking, should the department color for a historian be? Some cannon sources say red, like McGyvers in TOS although she technically had a separate duty as a phaser gunner according to the script. Some TNG sources point towards the blue sciences department... but then you run into the issue of is history a science? Really the writers probably should have made that the “research” department of Starfleet more tha science but hey hindsight.

Surprisingly, very chaste. Which, yeah, if you think about it, really fuckin' weird.
Got to work changing that by flirting with literally every Klingon I can find.
The server is baffled by my behavior, then realized "Oh right there's A LOT OF SEX IN STAR TREK WHAT THE HELL?!"

Are you saying that understanding the functions of and how to fix state of the art technology is unimpressive? Because that's rather silly. And yeah, O'Brien kept DS9 running, but I don't think anyone can say that was more, or less, challenging than Geordi's work on the Enterprise.

I say it is. I'm not saying Geordi is a bad engineer or nothing. But working on the then new hotness of the Federation with an elite crew (And Barclay) definitely looked easier than keeping DS9 from falling apart around their ears. Heck, he's gone for one episode and the place turns to shit.

I don't think there's any excuse to put humans on an Oberth class, give the archaeologists a damned chance at least.3. Something something overworked/uninvested writers. Star Trek has handled RL history in ups and downs.
