I like Digimon. Well, the first three series at any rate...

Did not like the Deltora Quest dub because the voices were awful. I tried the sub but it was too different to the books... and this was the first five minutes.

I'm sure if I looked I'd find some other ones I'd like.

So what is a medium that will 'live forever'? Surely even the appreciation of great art like the Mona Lisa could be forgotten with enough time.

The Mona Lisa isn't even that great. The Impressionists are much better.

Shonen anime are, by definition, aimed at boys.

Most of the super-heroish shonen stuff I don't like (eg.Bleach, Naruto etc.) I prefer instead slightly (but not fully) stranger stuff like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Other stuff like Azumanga Daioh or Lucky Star I enjoy as well as more mature shows like Elfen Lied or When They Cry.

Anime, as it has been said many times before in this thread, is a medium, not a genre. That's why I can say I like a variety of it, because there is no reason it should all be the same.

I used to HATE HATE anime a while ago because I was ignorant and thought they were a waste of time. (I always hated all cartoons, but anime's hate for me was even stronger). But then I was introduced to Code Geass, and suddenly I started watching a lot of anime.

To be honest, many animes generally suck because a lot of them are teen-oriented and have high school environments. I only watched those because I am, well find a lot of anime female characters attractive. (and the art style in general).

But of course I watch other anime shows that have interesting, complex plots. My favorites have been for me Code Geass, Elfen Lied and Black Lagoon.

Sure, I like it. Or, at least, I haven't watched anime long enough that I've obtained the ability to foresee the ending of a series.

I love it. When it's good. Like any Genre, it has its hits and misses. I find it really hard to find a good anime series to get into. I'm watching Soul Eater at the moment. I find it very funny. It's clearly aimed at teenagers, but nonetheless I find it entertaining.

I couldn't get into a show like Pokemon, Digimon, or Yu-Gi-Oh ever again. They were enjoyable when I was a teenager, but I find the format very repetitive now, so I'm looking for fresher concepts. I'm probably being overly cynical, but I do sort of think those shows are overly focussed on merchandising.

I do plan on getting more into Anime this year. I just need to do some digging and find some shows that appeal to my tastes. I enjoy science fiction, horror, or fantasy-based anime, but I'm not a fan of high-school drama or mecha anime. I suppose I could get into high-school drama anime if it was exceptionally good, but It wouldn't be my first choice.

Escapism, as it is that which you have just now now identified, is merely a trend that shall be extinguished with time. It is best to enjoy mediums that will live forever, beyond the independent feelings of any particular person.

It's best to enjoy whatever you find enjoyable, not what other people tell you what you should be enjoying. Escapism is never going to die out. Infact as society gets more complicated, escapism becomes ever more relevant. Video games, anime, books or TV. Not everything has to be appreciated for its artistic merit or timelessness to be enjoyable. It doesn't have to be an either/or persuit.
