Film/TV Endings Which Really Ticked You Off

Postby Afalia » Sun Mar 17, 2013 7:17 am

Firstly NO SPOILERS without using a spoiler tag please.

I just watched the final moment of 'Twin Peaks'. I am psychically angry there isn't more of this fantastic TV show to watch and incredibly ticked off the networks cancelled it. So NS, this leads me onto my question-what film or television series endings have really ticked you off, either because they were terrible endings, or in 'Twin Peaks' case because it left you wanting more but it was never fulfilled.

And I say this again PLEASE NO SPOILERS, without using a Spoiler
you know how it works

How are we able to rant without revealing spoilers...?
And so it was, that I had never changed.

Firefly.
The above post may or may not be serious.

Life on Mars [US Version]. The ending was the worst thing I have ever seen. I still have yet to watch the UK version.

The end of Vertigo was exceptionally poor even by Hitchcock's standards.

Titanic. The story and dialogue were laughably bad to begin with, but....

This woman gets a helicopter ride out to the ship in the middle of the ocean, where she finds out that they've been spending tons of money looking for a necklace that was last seen on the sunken vessel. She spends what must be several hours relating an affair that she had on the Titanic (probably to the embarrassment of her granddaughter), then, later that night, she goes out to the bow of the ship (IIRC), where she takes the necklace out of her pocket and tosses it overboard. Then she goes back to her cabin and dies. In the meantime, the salvage people are still burning through money trying to locate that thing, never knowing that this woman had it with her the entire time, and would rather see them go through these fruitless efforts than say "I had it the whole time, and I'm sorry, but you can't have the necklace." No, instead she has them listen to an interminable story filled with sentimental rot, and consciously wastes everyone's time in the process.

The Border
It got cancelled and the cliffhanger season finale was never completed. Me sad :(

For TV, Roseanne. Completely derailed the show when we found out in the last episode that....

...not only was the last season a dream, but Dan had actually died when he had his heart attack, Jackie was actually the lesbian in the family rather than the mother, Becky had actually married David, and Darlene had married Mark. This meant that several years worth of the show were completely tossed out the window, and some of the most interesting storylines (and, I admit, some of the most annoying) were completely tossed out of continuity.

For TV I'm going to say Firefly, Terra Nova, and Alcatraz, because I like those shows thank you very fucking much Fox. For movies, I'm saying The Last Airbender, because the final sentence in a completely fucking terrible adaptation was one that completely and totally spat on the show's canon.

The Wages of Fear.

I yelled at the screen when that ending happened. Then I laughed at it, because it was so blackly humorous. It's like the director just decided to give the audience the middle finger in the last reel. It was very, er, punk.

Deadwood was cancelled prematurely, whereas Lost wasn't cancelled quickly enough.

Angel's Revenge. Terrible ending to a terrible movie.

Most "It was all just a dream" endings. It's okay if the show or movie makes it obvious it's a dream. Otherwise, it's just a big "f**k you" to the audience. They might as well have Nelson from the Simpsons point at the audience and make his trademark "Haw haw!" laugh.

Also, most cliff hangers. It was okay in Star Wars Episode V. In most cases, however, it's just there to piss off the audience. It's worse when a show does it all the time. In a few cases, the show is cancelled, making the cliff hanger the series finale.
