If you're playing as an NCR character, or Independent, then McNamara. If you're playing as a House or Legion character then it doesn't matter.

And I'm in vault 34 trying to find the radiation source and the keys to the overseer's office and armory, and failing badly, although, I am getting a lot of 10mm ammo, I have something like 800 rounds of it now.

There is a room that's flooded not far from the door that leads to the armory. Swim down and find a body that has a code on it then enter it on one of the only working computers there then it'll say "drain" or "use pumps" or something like that. The flooded room will be empty and there will be another door you can enter. Search around for another body, a glowing one under a desk, and he'll have the next passcode. Find the next terminal and put in the code to unlock the overseer's door. Kill him, put in the code in his terminal, then if you want to stop the radiation, follow the path under him, if not, go straight to the armory and get ready for a ton of guns and ammo.

I think that's it. I don't know, I forget a lot. Still searching for that train tunnel with a very hard locked door.

yeah vault 34 is probably the hardest vault to clear out of all of them. Those armoured ghouls are just nasty and all that radiation means you either have to take a rad suit, in which case your protection is limited or use some heavy armour and stock up on rad-away before hand.
All the while that damn stuck door at the top just keeps opening and closing.

It's the one vault i leave to last with all of my characters, so i've got good gear and rad protection before running it.

The GRA Vendertron has somewhere around 8000 caps on hand. Other than that, you'll just have to find a lot of traders.

Well its one thing that selld for about 16,000 caps, I know Crimson has 12,000, but I'd prefer to not take a loss.

I don't think you actually get to see them but yes there is an option to save what few humans are left.
