"For Georgia I Pray"

Postby The Rebel Alliances » Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:25 pm

This is a song I wrote about my State of Georgia.

I have never written a song before and I would like some feedback on it. The lyrics and lines at least. Obviously you cannot hear the music or rythem so I would not expect feedback on that. Just been trying to get some NSers to take a look at it and give an opinion. I was actually inspired by the song "Scotland the Brave" which is a beautiful song about a people's homeland so I wanted to try something similer.

I thank you for your time.

I call it "For Georgia I Pray"

California may boast of beaches and surfs
Alaska of its beautiful night skies
But let the world now know
That I will always go
Back to the clay hills of Georgia

Georgia, where my ancestors lay
Georgia, of the free man's grave
Georgia, I am here to stay
It is for Georgia I pray

When tryanny came
Georgians would forever claim
That Liberty was their aim
And itself tied to America's fate

Georgia, where my ancestors lay
Georgia, of the free man's grave
Georgia, I am here to stay
It is for Georgia I pray

Now Georgia faces chains
Let no Georgian bear this pain
So that Georgia's children know
That Georgia is brave

Georgia, where my ancestors lay
Georgia, of the free man's grave
Georgia, I am here to stay
It is for Georgia I pray

Georgia, where my ancestors lay
Georgia, of the free man's grave
Georgia, I am here to stay
It is for Georgia I pray

For Georgia I pray

Please judge kindly.

Well I wrote this because it is where I consider my dearest home. I love Georgia and do not see myself ever leaving it for long.

All fifty huh? That is a thought. 8)

But honestly I do not feel myself qualified to write and sing a sincere song about a state or land I have never been to.

Intriguing. Indeed an interesting piece of music which I must say sounds pretty darn good.

Well, maybe when you leave, you will experience some stuff and turn it into a song. If you don't, well, we can only hope other singers can write a song at least half as good as yours. Pretty good song.

Interisting.
I had the image of it sung by an african voice to the beat of arcadian-style of the deep south the kind that were sung in the fields and would eventually become blues. the camrea rolling over the hills of your home state, and how it's changed over the years.

That is a very good picture. Perhaps for a music video.

That is a very good picture. Perhaps for a music video.

it would avoid the racisim that occasionally taints some southern pride songs when sung, preventing the ensuing flame wars.

Referring to the Revolution.

When tryanny came
Georgians would forever claim
That Liberty was their aim
And itself tied to America's fate

This covers the revolutionary war period. ie, the English
And Itself tied to America's fate hardly seems to suggest yanks. But yes Sherman did burn down half the state.

Georgia had one of the most Loyalist populations during the Revolutionary War. The Yanks during the Civil War were much more oppressive against Georgia than the English during colonization.

Anyway, I like it. You should write one about the South as a whole.
