Okay...
I didn't see that coming. I never believed that theory.
But I guess 2 questions were answered, with even bigger questions rising.
So I guess the Stan Pines that died was Stanley. I would get why Grunkle Stan would want to bring him back, but why did Grunkle look shocked as he stepped out of the portal?

I'm pretty sure the Stan who walked out of the portal is the real Stanford, and the Stan we know is really Stanley, who took the place of his brother 30 years ago.

I'm almost certain that Stanford wanted to get his brother back, and used the machine to-do so. And it didn't specifically say which Stan Pines. And in Stan's memories in the Dreamscaperers, he was on a date with Lazy Susan, he had the exact same voice he does back in whatever the time he created the Stan Vac in, and no memories that imply something like "Hey, I'm Stanley!"

For now till this Stan business is sorted out I'm simply labeling the person we thought to be Stanford as Grunkle Stan and the Author and the person we thought was Stanford's brother to be Grandpa Stan.

I had a feeling that the twin theory was correct considering Mable and dipper are twins as well there had to be an older generation of twins in the family.
