I thought he was alive, just in a vegetative state, physically anyway. Of course his mind is going full-bore, but his body ain't. I thought he was, technically, alive.
Obviously the lose of life-support on a more managable scale has been quite a blow for the Imperium.

Huh, then why bother having a life-support system in the form of the golden throne anyway?.
If he was truly dead, why is there the concern that the Golden Throne is slowly falling to pieces, and people are worried that his 'body will die' and lead to potential ruin for humanity,
I'm sure his body is, technically, alive, just about as close to being dead as possible.

He doesn't quite fit all 8 criteria to a living being seeing as he really can't reproduce anymore. But yeah his mind is eternally alive and in that way he can physically touch things according to lore.

No maybe im saying this wrong.
his body died but his soul/mind/pycic energy is still in it.
the throne dosnt keep him alive, it keeps his soul form entering the warp, if it did then he couldn't keep terra safe from the chaos gods.

That and he is currently being fed thousands of weaker Psykers a day to make sure his soul stays alive. They also need the Throne to power the Beacon on Holy Terra. Oh, and the Throne is breaking down.Onekawa-Nukanor wrote:It seems medical research and technology has gone a long way downhill since the 21st Century, considering we could potentially keep him 'alive' here, although we couldn't power the astronomicon.
Yes it has gone down hill. That's the point of WH40K. Everything has gone down hill. Everything. They don't even know how to build their better ships anymore. Hell, even the other species have gone down hill.

No, his body isn't dead. It's explicitly stated that the Golden Throne keeps his decaying body caught between life and death. The Golden Throne is an arcane life support mechanism, and when his body finally irreversibly dies, whether from the failure of the Golden Throne or the slow ravages of time, the Emperor's soul will be cast into the warp, and then no one really knows what will happen.

Pretty sure his soul will blind the chaos gods or his soul will be devoured by a chaos god. Basically, his soul utterly destroys chaos or his soul boosts it so much that Chaos will reign. My assumptions that is.

Well, it's worth noting that in the Old Lore, which has been reshrouded in myth by Games Failshop, the Emperor was the psychic gestalt of all human psykers in the prehistoric era, who dealt with the growing powers in the warp that were devouring their souls upon death by deciding to commit suicide and all be reincarnated at once.
While Chaos is stronger now than before, so is the Emperor. So it's conceivable that he'll just rush into the Immaterium, box them around the ears, and then be reincarnated. Or he could become a new Chaos God, and swallow the heart of the Imperium in a new Eye of Terror.

Eh, as bad as they've been about stasis, at least Games Failshop recognizes that something has to give. Hence, in the 6th edition rulebook, the Golden Throne has already started to fail, and the technology and knowledge for its construction and repair have long since been lost. So they will do something eventually, if only to sell us a new line of models.
