They even managed to find a loophole in the Elder Scrolls, themselves, to read them without the negative side effects. They were already advanced far beyond any form of magic even before they disappeared, and if they're still out there somewhere, then they've only advanced further. They have absolutely no need for the uselessness of magic artifacts.

Sorry; reading through and saw this post. This is very untrue and actually reflects on your knowledge of TES lore.

The fact that the Dwemer's machinery continued to work so long after they left was because of the way that Dwarven enchanters seamlessly combined the use of traditional enchanting with the mechanical prowess of the Dwemer -- they used soul gems to sustain the functionality of their creations. While the majority of Deep Elves preferred their little machines to the arcane, they didn't completely shun it. Magic was used by the Dwarves (especially magical artifacts. An Elder Scroll, the Heart of Lorkhan. . . ) They studied alchemy and enchanting as well.

We don't know if the gods viewed them as a threat, but the gods did view them as blasphemous and many believe that the Dwemer's disappearance was attributed to divine interference. Technology like the Dwemer created was not compatible with magic, as one would rule the other out eventually. Evidently, it was the latter. These speculations about the Dwarves still being out there are largely silly and just that . . speculations.

Again, sorry. I'm just a huge TES fan (Fallout as well, actually, but TES is my love when it comes to video games. Never have I come across a video game like it. Though I don't play many video games. I love TES for the lore. :P ), and the fact that you called her knowledge on the subject lacking just seemed funny to me. You claim that the Dwarves were utterly better than magic in every way, but . . . they just weren't.

Maybe "entirety" was something of a poor word choice on my part. I was talking about more traditional magic, the kind you cast.

There are plenty of examples in that page. The method used here is "Probably transcendence." just as with Atlantis it's "Probably sunk."

Are you just intentionally ignoring what I'm saying? It seems like you are because Atlantis has nothing at all to do with what I was talking about.

Ghosts aren't only harmed by magicka. They are simply immune to normal weapons. Also? Dwemer weapons don't count as "normal weapons." You can kill a ghost with them.

Second, there's no inherent difference between magical energy and normal energy. The fire of a torch is effectively identical to the fire of a spell. So, if the Dwemer were to build a fire-shooting robot, it would work just fine as any fire spell. Same as with shock and frost.

Ostroeuropa wrote:3. Thats the point... I pointed out that you can resolve a mystery just fine and reveal MORE questions by doing so. Kind of like how reality actually works, we discover one thing and it leads to a whole bunch more questions that we didn't even consider. Your argument basically boils down to
"No, fuck that, I don't want to explore the elder scrolls universe, i'm fine with it being undefined and unrevealed to us."

You don't understand subtlety, do you? There's a difference between leaving information unrevealed and trying to establish facts without proper explanation. You're trying to do the latter, and that just creates plot holes.

Also, ridiculous strawman aside, leaving certain things intentionally unanswered is a great way to make a fictional world seem more interesting and deep. For instance, Tolkien did it all the time with Middle-earth. Not everything needs to be expounded upon. Mysteries promote discourse and inquiry far more than answers.

So...they own the concepts but don't control them? Now you're just trying, and failing, to be pedantic. And, by that logic, then no one rules anything because it all leads back to those two. The Emperor doesn't actually rule the Empire because neither it nor he would exist if not for Anu and Padomay. So, clearly, he cannot be called an emperor.

1. I disagree. An example of a society up and disappearing into thin air with only vague ideas about the cause is perfectly analogous.
2. Source. Because this is bullshit and I have a canon source.
Before entering the college, the gatekeeper Faralda wishes to see a demonstration of magical powers. She requests to see a spell appropriate for the Dragonborn's level before gaining passage. These spells include:
Firebolt
Fear
Fury
Magelight
Healing Hands
Conjure Flame Atronach
Conjure Familiar
Fireball

You cast these at a sigil. No, you can't just drop a torch to have the sigil react, or even many torches. So you have just pulled something out of your ass. This is a clear demonstration that magic-fire is not the same as just fire.
3. If all your going to do is shriek insults and insist i'm wrong then we've reached the end of this discussion.
4. The emperor rules over tamriel. He does not rule over the CONCEPT of tamriel. so it's actually entirely supportive of my case. the daedra and aedra are temporal lords who govern over dominions, they are not gods.
5. See point 3.
6. Not equivalent.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

I think the idea of a Dwemer return could be well executed.
A few ideas:
-They could potentially return and just not remember where they'd been. Hints could be sown in both the "They ceased existing for a few thousand years for tax reasons" and "They became transdimensional super beings" fields. It's having your cake and eating it to. Fans loathe cop outs, though.
-Definitely just disappeared. They return and want to continue their experiments with the heart. Lorkhans divinity is loose now (his heart was destroyed) and they go crazy trying to find it. Turns out the Daedra and Aedra were just dicking with them or maybe Lorkhan set it up to free his heart. Mystery is solved, the experiment can't continue, end with a dance party. Fine elf-slaughter adventure and possibly the PC is now a Lorkhan incarnate?
-Definite transcendence. Turns out that wherever they went was unfriendly, and they were trapped for a minute or two. Now they are free and are trying to conquer Earth from their base on the moons. You are part of a team of 5 teenagers with attitude, chosen by that crazy ass dwarf from the Corprusareum and his modified dwemer centurion assistant, who must defend Tamriel from monsters that sometimes grow giant with Dwarf magicscience.

Bethesda still has huge amounts of territory they could cover and expand upon after Skyrim in various regions. What happens in Skyrim likely won't have much affect on majority of those regions.

As good as having 9 million is, and it's real good, it doesn't compare to heights of 12 million.

Those figures are from June, MoP was released in September.

Those figures represent their typical "end of expansion" lull.

You're also forgetting a large chunk of those subscriptions come from China. But subscriptions in China are based on a day-by-play basis, not on monthly subscriptions such as ares. So the numbers are highly skewed to begin with.

They added subtitles so you can actually understand what they're saying, but your right it's just a demonstration for an as of yet unannounced RPG game. After spending an hour scouring the internet for what this studio, Warhorse Studios, are making, the best I could find were several rumors that pointed to an Elder Scrolls title. So it's nothing concrete, but it's hope for the future.

The only thing that Bethesda needs to do is bring back the nudity from Daggerfall.
