That... has... little to no relevance to what I just said...

But she didn't beat her...I'm getting a strange sense of Deja Vu. I think I've had this argument before.

No, Twilight did not beat Chrysalis. Twilight never could. But Twilight was necessary to free Cadence.
In the right place, a pawn is as valuable as a queen.

That's where you read it!
That's it! Now I remember! Thanks, Khornate!

That phrase caught my eye. I have to wonder if Twilight wouldn't be more suited to a military role like her brother. Considering how she seems to be No1 on Celestias "ohshiiiii" contacts list, time and again her and her friends have rescued equestria.
Which begs the question, why isn't she in the military or some position of power? What kind of game is Celestia playing leaving her most powerful (presumably) protegee lollygagging around in ponyville?
Twilight has the necessary rational mindset and organisational skills to take charge, so why isn't she tutored as such by the sun god?
I mean it's like letting your sword go rusty in the rain when all manner of monsters come knocking on your door in the night.
Granted she'd be away from her friends so perhaps Twilight would outright refuse, but surely Celestia must have some contingency plans or students in the making for the future if that is the case?
I suppose in some ways it's handy to have Shining armour and Cadence around as they do suggest by their very existence that Celestia does have some sort of plan. I'll be damned if i know what it is though.

What if...she is being trained to succeed Celestia?

Yes, it was a military reference. Having more soldiers there would have allowed a quicker questioning of the crystal ponies, though probably with the same success rate. Whether they'd have gone to the library is anypony's guess.
