Yes, but the Crystal Empire is the Fisher King of Equestria. And Twilight was the only one who discovered the secret passageway, and the Crystal Heart itself. If she hadn't gone, perhaps Shining Armour might have found it, but I doubt it. Even if they did, he wouldn't have been able to do the Crystal Faire.

So the Mane 6 were the necessary preservers of Cadence + Shining Armour and the Crystal Empire. Celestia and Luna might have been able to stop Sombra, but it's unknown whether they would have been able to save the Crystal Empire and the two lovebirds.

Really, they just needed more hooves on the ground.

Chrysalis was also necessarily Twilight's victory. If she hadn't saved Cadence, Cadence and Shining Armour would not have been able to beat Chrysalis.

Twilight has the necessary rational mindset and organisational skills to take charge, so why isn't she tutored as such by the sun god?
I mean it's like letting your sword go rusty in the rain when all manner of monsters come knocking on your door in the night.
Granted she'd be away from her friends so perhaps Twilight would outright refuse, but surely Celestia must have some contingency plans or students in the making for the future if that is the case?

Yes, it was a military reference. Having more soldiers there would have allowed a quicker questioning of the crystal ponies, though probably with the same success rate. Whether they'd have gone to the library is anypony's guess.

I speculate that a larger group would have been noticed and Sombra could have had time to hide from a larger force, so perhaps Celestia's reasoning to send just the mane six with the gruesome twosome is logical?
