It may not be your favourite genre, but what are your thoughts on 'classical' music? :?:

Oh I don't know, it's kinda boring at times, but the melody is sometimes really soothing ;)

If it annoys conservatives while being inherently conservative in many respects than i'm all for it.

It makes things epic, but I could never sit down and listen to it without it being played over something.

Likely not, as so many pieces have religious bases.

Does anyone think that any of today's pop artists will have the staying power of Mozart, Handel, or Bach?

While the composer's might have been heavily talented, that doesn't necessarily make their music any more appealing. Some of it can be rather dull in it's emphasis on form, but I'll admit I can find it soothing to listen to at times. Not something I'd suddenly desire to listen to, though.

It is awesome, i like it i feel it has a lot of "soul and passion" in it as clichéd as that would sound, even old military marches and opera arias and overtures are quite appealing to me. I really like Baroque as well.

I really like some of it but some of it is too mannered, hence I often tend more towards 20th century stuff when it comes to my preferences.

To be fair, I really don't like Mozart or Beethoven. Anything with lots of brass or woodwind I will listen to. Except for flutes. Flutes are the instruments of the devil!

If you're referring to ''classical'' encompassing all forms of that ''era'', ie baroque, romantic, etc. generally I don't much care for it. I find it to be castrated, dull and rather obnoxious. If you mean the specific genre of "Classical", encompassing Mozart and Beethoven, it's better than the rest of the stuff. Nothing special though.

I do like the harpsichord though.

we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

I think it's fine. It's pretty ''compassionate''. I usually don't know many composers, but I like Beethoven. :)

Did you mean "passionate"?

"compassionate" doesn't even begin to describe some classical pieces.

I, also, enjoy Classical music. I'm actually someone who likes music all around, but when it comes to heavy metal (all the screeching and loudness --- you whippersnappers these days with your crazy rap musics) I just jump off the wagon. Classical music was the first genre to ever uplift me from my depression I had two or three years ago. I noticed that most pop/hip-hop songs were mostly filled with sadness at essence. Classical music told a story, whilst not having lyrics at all. My favorite composer would have to be Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Haydn, and most of the major names near mid classical period and toward the end. I'm not a big fan of contemporary classical music, it just doesn't affect me in the same way.

So, that's my reason for loving Classical music. But ever since I got over my depression, it's been bypassed.

That isn't a very fair assessment of the genre.

Don't take me wrong, I would not mind giving heavy metal another chance... but I don't believe it will catch on in my head. I've never been a big fan of gothic music, or music which takes the form as dark, mysterious, or generally distasteful. The music doesn't uplift me like it might some others. I dislike the darker spectrum of emotions. I may just be stereotypical, but I have yet to find a heavy metal song that is uplifting as the other genres.. However, I must admit that I did enjoy one song made by AC/DC.... Highway to Hell.

Meh, like I said... I wouldn't mind giving heavy metal another chance.
