Yes I have. I've heard some new stuff that's good. But none that are anywhere near as good as the old stuff.

I'm not saying there isn't good stuff out there. I'm saying that there's not as much good stuff coming out. I have yet to find anything from the past few years that equals the old stuff.

That post may be wrong in many ways, but it's also rather entertaining. Since grunge is simply a variant of rock, it looks like Dogapus doesn't know a lot about music in general. Rock has evolved in many different substyles, this is why distinctly different bands such as Dire Straits, Killing Joke and Napalm Death can all be called rock acts. Personally I think that there's still quite a bit of talent out there, it's just a matter of looking around. If you're only scratching the surface of the music world, it's not strange that all you'll find is dirt.

All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

Chances are if you can't find today's good music you wouldn't have been able to find yesterday's good music either were you around. You'd just be listening to Rick Astley unironically like everyone else wondering if there isn't something better.

I think true pop music has gone down in quality and quality dosn't mean i wuv jebus!!! and i eat gummy bears every day!!! Saying that the lyrical language is rough makes it bad is just silly and if you think most of the "old' songs are clean you didn't do too well in your english class did you? I am enjoying the techno weirdyness from Europe though so maybe I'm just crazy. :lol2:

To sum up your words, "you shouldn't thoroughly evaluate someone's inaccuracies but I can bitch because someone likes different music than me." Dude, I don't like Nicki Minaj either, but if someone does, I won't intentionally annoy the hell out of them in a vain attempt to get them to stop. That's just entirely rude and unwarranted, like taking away a little kid's candy and yelling in their face that they should never eat it again.

I didn't annoy the hell out of no one, and if I did they are easily irritable. I will let someone into my brain when they express they like Nicki Minaj. I won't take their candy away, but I will tell them its fucking disgusting. Nicki Minaj, unfortunately, raps.. so she's the type of music I listen to, so your idea of me bitching at someone for listening to different music is quite dis-respectful and really irrelevant.

So your attempt to sum up my words was a bad summary. Sorry for this misunderstanding. Edit; Rather than me having the "pretentious" attitude, I felt like it was Oterro, especially when he can reference me to a high school debate team and tell me to stop using "sir", when he tells me he has more interest in music (when he knows nothing except my nation state, concerning me) and spouts off to a kid who is in the first year off his teenage years.

Be a little more descriptive next time. I recommend taking a different approach than the quote directly above. You can critique someone else's tastes but at least evaluate why you disagree and provide recommendations without coming off as obnoxious.

Nicki Minaj isn't the only rapper, just don't listen to her music, damn. I don't like most her music but sheesh, let her and her fans do them. I listen to more foreign rap and music in general (mostly Spanish and German) than I do American rap atm, there are always good rappers out there, but sometimes you have to just do some searching.

This is a topic of "ultimate disproof" of why music doesn't suck, and someone talks about liking Nicki Minaj, sorry for me being obnoxious.

edit; Zweite Alaje, I listen to nothing but rap and rap instrumentals. I know of plenty of great artist, I don't wander out of the states though. no foreign rapper has caught my attention. No to sound rude but the accent of UK rappers is something I haven't gotten accustomed to, and of course the language barrier for rappers of other regions.

Well, my love for foreign music is an extention of my interest and love of Linguistics. I do still strongly suggest looking into rap in other languages. I listen to American rap still, but a large part of it is underground stuff (for the more modern stuff anyway).

I'll dig up some stuff from my favs, maybe you'll like them.

This group is good, I found them a few years ago.

This guy is a great British artist, just awesome

Bonus non-English stuff:
Awesome Spanish rap group

Awesome German rap

Edit: The stuff you linked is good stuff BTW, new artists I've never seen. :)

Rock and guitar has matured, with a different flavor. However, I do prefer the 80s, and this new pop stuff is really, really, bad. I'm sorry if I'm being a sour puss, but it makes me want to hurl.

Eh, the way I see it, there has been and will always be "good" music, and there will always be crap music. Sometimes the crap is what gets into the mainstream awareness and makes it seem like music has gone downhill, and sometimes the good stuff is what gets the air time and makes it seem like music is awesome. The nice thing now with the internet is that it is much, MUCH easier to find good stuff; non-mainstream music is much more accessible now than it was back when the only real options were the radio and the TV. Plus the traditional barriers to entry (the studio system) are becoming increasingly obsolete as quality recording gear becomes more affordable and internet distribution makes it possible to get exposure without the backing of a label.

I'll admit that I usually listen to 90s and earlier music (like, say, the 1990s to classical) because I couldn't find any interest in what's popular these days.

But for me, it's just because I'm at my happiest listening to the older music. Doesn't mean I completely shun today's music. There's some fine bands over in Europe who I really have taken a liking to and you may say that I live in my own little bubble because I don't know anything about people like Adele, Lana Del Rey and other such acts. I've simply found my comfort zone and intend to stay in it.

For me, the "music sucks today!" crowd oftentimes ends up making them look silly because they only look at what "mainstream America" has. They don't consider any other scenes out there that may catch their eye. So when they come up to me or anyone and say music today sucks, I have to wonder if they did some digging. But, then again, if they have, and still claim it, I can't do anything but accept it. Free will and all that governs things like this.
