The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is probably my favorite in general, but that's not a proper book.

The Merchant of Venice (Will, you brilliant bastard) is also good, but not a book either.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is great, but it's flawed in regards to prose, so I can't put it higher.
"Then I was fertilized and grew wise;
From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."
- Odin, Hávamál 138-141, the Poetic Edda, as translated by Dan McCoy.

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Goodbye.

Sword Art Online series, thought that's getting pretty stale lately.

The Plague, by Albert Camus. For every person saying this is an existentialist work, Camus spins in his grave.

Animal Farm is a more basic version, good for the young mind.

I enjoyed it when I read it.

I read it for English class last year and enjoyed it very much. I intend to read 1984 as soon as I can get my hands on a copy.

I approve. That's definitely in my top 3.

My top 1, for now, would probably have to be For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Ernest Hemingway. It's just so riveting and emotional and political and...I love that goddamned book.

I know. I was affected rather closely, my brother being mentally disabled. That book is the only work of fiction or non that has ever brought me anywhere close to tears.

Don't know, if it exists I haven't read it yet and that's saying something considering all the books I've read. Then again, considering the dozens of books I have stored away awaiting to be digested, my gem may be among one of them. Finally, I thought we weren't supposed to pick favorites among our children?

When you have two books from the same author, we call that a trend. Technically, those can be classified as your favorite.

I guess you weren’t aware, but there are literally hundreds of books with the title 1812 in them. 1812 was a busy year between Napoleon’s Invasion of Russia and the beginning of the War between the United States and the British Empire. In the future you should seriously consider including subtitles and/or the author.

In closing, since you had two about the American Civil War I was wondering if you had a chance yet to read the Shelby Foote Civil War series?

1. 1984 by George Orwell
2. Animal Farm by George Orwell
3. War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
4. The Murder of the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
5. Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne (the first fiction book I read, in a simplified form, of course)

I like Conroy, yes, but I would not classify him as my favourite author. Also, I have not read all his books. Only three.

I wasn't trying to be specific. I really don't care that much.

Anyway, the subtitle would be “The Navy's War”. It is about the American-British War of 1812.

Never really gotten myself up to doing it.

Theres really too many to choose from, and I know that makes me sound geeky, but an all-time favorite of mine is The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin.

Of mice and men is probably on the top of my list too.

Also, if I have to consider only the pure pleasure of the reading, and not the value of the book in itself, or the impact on my ideas or my life, I would say The Autograph Man, by Zadie Smith.
