I offered another solution in an edit.

Otherwise, give your brother a title in your land.
OR give the child a title in your land.
They will remain loyal to whichever title is highest, and if both are equally high, whichever title came first.
Try and make the kid a duke in YOUR kingdom first.
Or make your brother a duke in your kingdom and hope your brother dies before the duchess dies.
...
Or do what i'd do and make SURE he dies first.

If they don't want to be independent, they wont be. Search for them plotting, or keep an eye on it and wait for them to declare independence, then intervene as an ally.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Any tips on how to become the Emperor as a Byzantine Duke?

I currently own the duchy of Achaia and am married to the duchesss of Crimea.
My brother is married to the one countess of the Duchy that is not from my family and have 2 sisters. 1 is married to the Emperor and 1 is married to a King from Jerusalem who lost his titles.

And if I kill off the entire family, Aquitagne will pass to some frenchie.

Your sister is married to your sister?

Also:

France apparently has a claim on Normandy, wich is now part of the Kingdom of Brittany, wich is me.

And this sucks.

Although, I have 700 gold coins, so I'd be able to outnumber the French by around 10k I don't think they'd last against a 150k army. They lose morale very quickly, and they're going to get me broke while they're organizing themselves.

As the new king just crushed revolts, he won't get any during the war.

What do?

It was a typo. I meant that she was married martiniliary to that guy.

And in your case I would either try to secure an alliance with that guy.... or kill him

Rage quit my Castille campaign. I got involved in two wars and had a few revolts, and my last save was before shit hit the fan. :/ Started a new Castille campaign that is already quite interesting.

Become king of somewhere, preferably west of Greece. Sicily is always a good option, if its still primarily Muslim-dominated. That makes your job much easier.

As a Byzantine Duke, if in the west, go for sicily as advised.
If in the east, you're going to want to do the same but more cautiously.

It is ran by Catholic. Hungary is split in 3 ( There is a huge Croatia in the middle that does not even own half of Croatia)

It wouldn't be a proper Paradox game if you didn't rage quit three quarters of your campaigns.

But wouldn't you switch to your son if that happens? There are good and bad things, yea, but isn't the point of the game to keep your dynasty alive? :/

Good point. I thought it was strange that my heir to the Duchy of Capua and myself dropped like flies after marrying an ambitious Breton noble. If not for the giant purple shield known as Byzantium, I'd probably be cake-walked by Muslims, the republics or the Normans now.

The bad part about the Byzantines is all the factions. Every few decades a new civil war starts to install some claimant or push some law. It's impossible to get anything done if you aren't constantly dealing with the other Doux.

in EU3 was hoping to enter a royal marriage with Poland as i was Russia and stupid Bohemia gobbled them up! i have the strongest army in Europe and the largest navy and at the moment Bohemia is not allied with anybody i think now is a good time to strike them to get some more territory for Russia while gaining a new vassal. at my current strength i have no doubt i would steamroll over them. thoughts?
