Slender: The Free Indie Game

Postby AETEN II » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:14 pm

So has anyone else downloaded and played it? I just did and holy shit, it's the only game I've ever played to actually spook me a bit when I got grabbed. I don't have much to say, as I only collected two papers before being snatched, but has anyone else played it?

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Tried it again, the first time appears to send you into a FUCKFUCKFUCKGIVEMEAGUNFUCKFUCKWHYISMYFLASHLIGHTDEADFUCKFUCK series. After that it's now meh. Good first jump factor though. Hard as hell too.

Youtube usually is the one that spreads games like this around pretty fast. Problem is they're fad games that are forgotten pretty quickly.
Didn't scare me much. Gave me chills when Slender started to screw with the screen but other than that I was confused about everything.

I didn't get spooked when Slenderman grabbed the screen, my blood got pumping when I saw him standing a hundred yards away, which triggered my 'OH FUCK' response and caused me to run around in a circle, get lost, and accidentally walk right into him. Wish the framerate was smoother.

hopefully the slender games on greenlight right now will be better because it honestly isn't that scary.

Not scary but tedious to play, so I simply stopped for now. Maybe next time I'll do what I always do: change the code to Slender's disadvantage, after understanding what can be changed.

Seems a bit like Amnesia in a way.

What happens if you go towards the man who keeps following you? Do you die?

It looks quite creepy. Alone in a forest and suddenly, "I'MA WATCHING YOU."

Game over if you look at it too long, especially if you're using the flashlight. However, if you use the flashlight for too long the battery burns out. Then you're kinda fucked, since Slenderman's pace increases when the flashlight is off.

Indie sure knew what Amnesia was going for then. But damn, that is pretty creepy. I might try it.

You can't just use furniture to barricade yourself like Amnesia. Although there will be a "Trolling the Slenderman" in the future I bet.

Walking alone in a dark, scary castle, and then hearing noises everywhere as Monsters rush out to kill you isn't scary?

I'd rather be scared at Amnesia.

Amnesia, you're trapped in a castle with no escape.

Slenderman, just run through the forest eventually you'll get out.

Actually no. I just collected all eight pages. You just die. No matter what. And Amnesia wouldn't scare me. Hell, now slender just makes me laugh. Oh well :/

Any advice for anything that might possibly spook me? Send a shiver? Because nothing ever really has.

It's not bad , but I prefer "SCP-173"

I don't know why it's freaky , it just is.

Anyways, I'm liking all these "old computer" friendly games
(not to mention free) made by these small devoted groups.
I look forward to seeing more.

You may want to try LSD: Dream Emulator. It's not so much an "in your face" horror game like Amnesia; rather, it may not even be considered a horror game per se, but it has many disturbing qualities. It has been described as having the affect of bringing out a slow, creeping unease that is hard for the player to pin down—I guess uncanny is the word I'm looking for—that eventually builds into paranoia. When it comes to actually playing it though, emulating it may pose a bit of a problem. I think you'll need a specific PlayStationOne emulator just to get it to work, but it's well worth it if you are into this kind of thing. (It was not released outside of Japan but is fully playable without any knowledge of Japanese).

Below is a link to an article on LSD: Dream Emulator if you're interested.

LSD is easily the scariest game I've ever played. I first found it after looking up games similar to Yume Nikki, and seeing this suggested somewhere. I watched a few videos on it and didn't see what all the fuss was about it. Then, when I actually went to play it, lo and behold it wasn't scary at all.

it's still pretty fun though so I kept playing. A few days in, you start to feel a bit unnerved and that turns into pure fear. Whereas traditional horror games rely on "play in da dark wit da hedphones xD" this game... ugh... I had a friend over and we were playing it in broad daylight with speakers and I was shitting my pants whenever the grey fuck appeared. I pretty much refuse to play it anymore and don't find most things that used to scare me unnerving at all anymore.

jesus christ save yourself don't play it please ;_;

i also recommend arise if you like jpegs.

the funny thing is yume nikki is objectively bad
