Space marine codex's, he made were bad.

Necron one was okay, not good or bad.

The Grey Knights are definitely one of the best, but there really isn't a most elite. They tend to specialize in certain types of warfare, or in fighting certain enemies, but all of them are about equally effective.

The 'official' best chapter is supposed to be the Ultramarines, but that's hardly true, since each specializes, like Indeos said, to its own specific battle doctrine. The Codex Astartes is the basic rulebook for Space Marine chapters, and the Ultramarines follow it to the word.

Nothing about this mentions hiding the existence of Daemons; I don't think the Imperium had had much contact with them until near the end of the Great Crusade. If nothing else, it was better than the Lectitio Divinitatus that replaced it, because the whole point was to destroy religion and replace superstition with science.

Have you read any of the Horus Heresy books? It's explained in detail.

IIRC, Galaxy In Flames has the greatest "priest" of the Imperial Truth, Kyril Sindermann, fall quickly away from it when confronted by a book of daemonic summoning rites that he uses to accidentally bring one into existence.

Galaxy in flames is definitely one of the best imo, next to Flight of the Eisinstein, Legion, Fulgrim and Battle for the Abyss. For me its a tie on Fulgrim and Flight of the Eisinstein on being the best one although ive only read as far as Prospero burns(on the last few chapters)

In regard to space marines there is no Elite chapter (well bar the Grey Knights) as the Space Marines are the Elite.

Since each chapter is more or elss self contained and self sustaining thier best indidvuals tend to stay with thier chapter their entire lives and most chapters tend to have one or two Elite companies (typically the 1st company who get even better armour in the shape of the tactical dreadnought suits).

The only real exception to this is the Deathwatch which IIRC recuits the odd marine here and there from odd chapters for special duties.

As to what Ultramariens are afraid of its quite simple: Actually doing any work and getting thier armour dirty ;)

Plus Imperial Fists are better because they are badass siege experts and are just awesome looking. Example.

The Deathwatch is drawn from all 1,000 chapters, and is tasked with the destruction of Xenos evrywhere. They are in esence a less "shiney" sort of Grey Knights, serving the Ordo Xenos, as opposed to the Ordo Malleus.

There are supposed to be one thousand chapters, of one thousand marines each. This rarely works out, but officially, its one thousand chapters.

Plus or minus some, with a chapter or part of a chapter going renegade every now and then.

Check this out. It's a fairly elaborate fan-fiction about Warhammer 50k.
http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/sho ... hp?t=51806

It takes Grimdark and drives it off the cliff. Like, Age of Strife level grimdark.
