Some websites do it to make people actually go to their website to see stuff, others do it to try and keep strain on their servers low.

Folks, let's be clear here. Hotlinking images is risky - you're stealing someone else's bandwidth, and they have every right to be annoyed about it. Sometimes, people whose images are hotlinked choose to replace them with shock images, as a way of getting their point across.

That just happened in this thread - someone posted what was probably a fairly innocent picture, and it was replaced with goatse. I've declined to delete their nation this time around, as it was a case of stupidity, rather than deliberately posting an offensive image. However, if they repeat this offense, their nation will be deleted, regardless of the circumstances.

I'm leaving this thread locked until either another mod comes along, or I unlock it tomorrow, as I want this warning to sink in. The people who use this thread post a lot of images - if you want to continue doing that, and don't want to risk losing your nation, find somewhere to host the images yourself.
