"Former Royal Guard, was severly injured during an assignment, was escorting Aristocratic family to the Gala, (the Princess apparently wanted to thank them for something and lent the family 2 of her personal guards) the road in one area veered near the forest, all seemed quiet until a Manticore attacked the party.

My partner and I tried to hold it off but a second Manticore managed to flank us and hit me from behind.
My partner tried to aid but was occupied by the 1st Manticore, so I tried to defend myself as best I could, the Manticore proved resilient to my magic and struck me to the ground where I was dazed, the Manticore then stomped on my horn breaking it. The pain was unbearable.

I thought I was going to die when I suddenly heard loud shouts, thats the last I remembered before I blacked out.
Apparently a Pegasus patrol had been sent out to find out what the delay was, when the Manticore's found themselves outnumbered they turned and ran.

I was no longer able to effectively use magic so I was honorably discharged from the Guard.
After about a month of depression I decided to take up teaching History at Canterlot U.
I find myself enjoying the quiet life.....Oh yeah I can still use magic apparently, course the magic is much less stable and it gives me massive headaches, but no pain no gain right?"

Eh... it's alright. But I thought Royal Guards were usually pretty muscular (or at least bigger than the average pony). Your OC looks rather small-framed.
