I've gone from not really caring about music to liking pretty much every genre. I'm always willing to listen to new bands. Now I love music enough to combat my laziness. This laziness was not putting any new music on my iPod and now I've realized, "Hey, music is great, I want to listen to some more that what I have."

Listen to Mahmoud Awad.

I went from being the biggest Hannah Montana-worshiping Disney slave to a metalhead with a fetish for screamo over the course of a year in my younger days.

Suffice to say, twas quite awkward that next Christmas when I got 100% Hannah merchandise from my aunt.

Screamo or metalcore? Screamo isn't a form of metal, it's a form of hardcore punk, and not associated with the metal scene.

7-9 years old: Classic Rock like Queen, Deep Purple, The Beatles, and other genre bands my parents liked.

10 years old: I got into Metal with Iron Maiden and for about a year listened solely to their 14 albums at the time.

11 years old: I got into popular Thrash Metal band Metallica.

12 or so years old: I got into Power Metal through Dragonforce via Guitar Hero.

13 years old: got into Metalcore and Alternative Metal through Avenged Sevenfold.

14 years old: Got into more accessible Melodic Death Metal like Dethklok, and a bit less accessible Children of Bodom. Got into Neo-classical Metal through Yngwie Malmsteen. Got into a bit less accessible though pretty popular still Thrash Metal like Megadeth and Slayer. Got into my favourite band to date which is Blind Guardian. Also got into more, other Power Metal. Got into a bit of Indie/Alternative Rock like Shaimus. Got into a bit of Chiptune music like Rainbowdragoneyes. Got into Progressive Rock like Rush.

Present day: I've gotten into Black Metal like Watain, Darkthrone, Sigh, and Morgawr. I've gotten into Death Metal, most notably Death. Also I've gotten into Melodic Death/Folk Metal like Ensiferum. I've been finding some Folk artists interesting like Stan Rogers. I still like most of what I've liked in the past, except for most Metalcore, though I don't mind some of it. I'm also starting to like Progressive Metal like Dream Theater.

It hasn't been so much changing as just adding to what I've already established as what I like.

Seventh Grade, my friends introduced me to Iron Maiden - a veritable epiphany, if you will. I have been into metal ever since, though I have moved within the genre to more Power, Symphonic, Black, and Folk metal, while still listening to Heavy, Speed, Death, and others. Not a fan of Scream or Hair metal though. Or Glam metal...

This appears to be the standard experience. I consider myself lucky that it wasn't for me. What my friends seem to like I loathe. That said, I'm still travelling under the impression their tastes haven't changed. On the other hand they seemed to like what we had at the Ball so...

I'd say very little. I mean I used to listen to jazz a lot but not so much these days. (For example, I've been listening to a combination of Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Pink Floyd, Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart for the last couple of days and for the last few nights Picture on the Wall.) On the other hand, I probably still like it. I don't listen to much modern music given that I don't like it (well, most of it... maybe ten percent of what I've heard is at least tolerable).

I can see how stuff like Yannis Xenakis, Pierre Henry and Merzbow wouldn't be up everybody's alley.

You're making no sense and sounding like you're telling music to git off your lawn.

Hell, I'm not a fan of recent chart-dominating pop music, but my dislike is always primarily based on production, not saying that it's not as good as it used to be.

Over the course of 10 years I have gone from Pop to Classical, then to Contemporary Christian, then to Israeli music, Middle Eastern, and finally to Reggae.

Currently, I listen to Reggae and Dancehall as well as Hip-Hop and Soca, and occasionally listen to Middle Eastern, and a Pop song or two.

But Reggae and Dancehall is by far what I listen to the most 8)

Oh, and somewhere in between Classical and Christian I listened to Jazz a lot 8)

Yeah... I've run across too many dancehall songs with lyrics approved by the Westboro Baptist Church.

I used to listen to a lot Japanese songs (J-Pop in particular) because they sound cool back then. That led me to learning Japanese...
...and I wish I didn't take those lessons.

I am still into anime though, but I skip the OP and ED songs.

Right now, I am into a combination of genres: Rock, Techno, Pop, and Dubstep. In that order.
This nation is now being retired.
Good-night, sweet prince.

The Christian Dancehall artists don't sing homophobic lyrics (but most of them sound like crap), so it's kind of a matter of picking and choosing. Like 1 artist may sing a few homophobic songs, yet have other songs that are very intelligent. Basically you have to dig through the garbage to find the gold. But I can give you a list of some songs:

Songs by Mavado
In This World
Delilah
Starlight
Fly Again
Heart Beat
Born and Raised
Overcome
Dying
Changing Times
Settle Down
Star Bwoy (may have homophobia, but I don't remember)

Various Artists
Tamale - Mr.Vegas
Dancehall Takover, Ya Habibti, Need You - Million Stylez
Wipe Those Tears - Jah Vinci
I Can Feel Your Pain - Gyptian

I can give you a lot more, but too tired to list them all  . These are some good songs to start off with though. Just TG me if you want more.
