Breaking Bad season 5

Postby HeresJohnny » Sun Jul 15, 2012 10:21 pm

So, who here just saw Live Free or Die?

I've been wondering what that opening was all about. What was up with Walt's hair and glasses? He looked as though he were on the run, was he hiding out in New Hampshire or something? Makes me wonder if his cancer is in remission as of the time of the flash forward.

I'm excited to see where things will be going from here.

By the way, here's something I found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb-jLDrMbd0&feature=plcp

Note how tiny that magnet was. I've heard some fans are dubbing the "evidence room" scene as implausible, but imagine using a magnet intended for lifting cars.

Yeah he is in some deep shit if he feel like he needs a M249 SAW. The again maybe not when I saw the singed teddy bear a few seasons back I thought Walt's meth lab literally blew up in his face. But you all know what really happened.Oh on a side note I love Mike's new snarky attitude.

It seems they enjoy crude animes instead, unfortunately.

I think the writers want us to think that he's on the run, and that his secret is out, which makes me think that that's not what happened. (But maybe they know that's what I'm assuming, and are going to play it straight to genuinely surprise me. :o )

But I'm really not sure, still. I'm sure we'll get another flash forward in tomorrow's episode.

I think AMC is making Breaking Bad available online for DISH subscribers.

One of the keys in the flash forward is that it's Walt's 52nd birthday. He turned 50 at the beginning of the show and 51 sometime in Season 4, so they're letting you know how far in advance this is (plus, beard...).

He's not in New Hampshire and the waitress thinks he's on his way to California.

The teddy bear thing, I honestly think (though, ffma, I haven't seen a show writer or runner say as much) they didn't think they'd get past their second season and when they did, they made an abrupt turn. However, this kind of set up is incredibly common in the show dating back to the first episode where he gives his confession and stands in his skivvies with a gun holstered in the waistband standing down approaching sirens only to find out they're responding to something else entirely. Or showing 'C'pn Crunch's' low-rider bouncing with shells about implying Jesse is dead only for it to be Tuco and him being shot by Hank.

Hands down my favorite cold open, though, is the mariachi video.

I'm thoroughly impressed and enraptured by how they've shifted the 'sympathetic' character in the story along with notions of moral ambiguity. I'm intrigued to see where they're taking this.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

If you like it so far, sure. It pretty much maintains itself rather well.

Seasons 1-4 were 1 year, so yea, it is pretty far ahead.

Does anyone really think that Walt is completely done cooking meth? That's kind of the show's signature, the meth-cooking.

It might have made the case for a spin off, "Mike the Badass." Honestly, if that show has a signature it's the supercalm ass kicker.

I'd watch that. I just love how Mike uses his granddaughter's toys to help him carry out his hits.
