Although, key to winning, ranged units, only and always.

Ranged units can't capture cities.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Yeah definately. If you get them in the right time period, Crossbowmen can give you potentially the biggest advantage.

Death Robots are powerful, but I wouldn't rank them as the best. On their own, individually they are the best, but usually I'm already over-dominating by the time they're available, so they end up just being for fun, even though they're not necessary.

Well I'm not dominating. I've got two—arguably three, if you still count Persia—other civilizations that could pose a challenge.

After my first game I now specifically research them, same with battleships and destroyers.

Year: 2042. Status of German-Persian War: Two more cities have been captured, including the capital, Persepolis, which was first decimated by the first-ever deployment of atomic weaponry. The Persian space program was destroyed along with Persepolis. Germany is now undoubtedly the world's leading superpower.

On a side note, capturing Persepolis got global happiness up to 20! It lost eight from the puppeting, but that's still a gain of 30!

Happiness is one of the biggest stumbling blocks if you want to conquer all over the world.

In the game I'm actively playing now, its 1650, I'm the Japanese Empire, on a continent with China, Siam, and Greece. I entered a war with Greece over border issues (They pretty much surrounded me with territory, and wouldn't allow open borders) like 50% of the fighting was done when almost his entire military held off mine at Sparta (go figure). Eventually we beat them, and it was just a matter of steamrolling through the rest of their territory. I was in the Renaissance at the time and they were in the Medieval. I had Samurai and Crossbowmen break off into groups and eventually I conquered all of their cities, freeing the city-state of Cape Town. Now its only me, the Chinese, and the Siamese on the continent. I can tell a conflict is bubbling, as China conquered a city-state Siam had allied with. If China and Siam go to war, I'll jump in on the Chinese side, because Siam is hostile and growing dangerous, and I can't allow them to take China. I've done some exploring, and I think I've found the edge of the other continent, and I met the Persians.

I've found that the Arabians typically make great allies when you have a common ally. Sure, they eventually denounce you when you declare war too often, but they're great temps. City States are the only actual allies you'll ever have through thick and thin though.

Germany, and Sweden have always been good allies with at least in my case, A side note as Austria, I just bought out Sidon.

Hmph. As Germany, I was allied with Sweden. Then he began denouncing me. Then I conquered his whole country in four turns.

Oh, by the way, I just had to purchase and the launch a nuclear missile at a Persian fleet that I was worried was going to pillage some of the crab in the waters I had stolen from them.

Fucking Napoleon. Just after the war with Persia began, I asked him to declare war on him, and he refused. He spent the whole time building a massive gunpowder army, and now that I'm two cities away from complete victory he's declared war and surrounded at least one of the guys cities.

Is it wrong that I'm considering nuking him?

To be honest, when I was working on the last city I captured I was considering whether or not to nuke. On the one hand, it'd make it way easier, but on the other, I might need it at later date, and a city-state ally had units immediately adjacent to it and I didn't want to tick them off. I eventually decided not to use it.

Don't nuke him, nuke the city he's surrounded. On a side note I'm still trying to find Mayan land, Germany Sweden, and Songhai are allies, yet none want my resources, at least the luxury ones, on the bright side, I'm an era ahead of them, and bulding my military with 100 gold coming in a turn, and trying to find who the last civ is.

You mean my current dilemma of whether or not to hit Napoleon? Actually, I did that just after I saved to see what would happen. Suffice it to say, it doesn't end well when all of one's units are within two tiles of a city.

Alright, I successfully conquered Persia (and only had to nuke one other city in the process). Now I control two continents, with the exception of three city-states on one, two on the other, and four French cities. Washington is building the Manhattan Project, but it won't be done for another fifty turns and I'm not scared anyways. I am undoubtedly the most powerful civilization now.

I just decided to see what would happen if I used a nuclear missile on the largest French defensive zone I could see, at Marseille. It worked a bit too well: not only did it completely destroy his units (except a rifleman who was a tile out of range) and leave the city so weak one of my GDRs could simply walk in unopposed, it actually took out one of my GDRs and my Great General! :lol2:
