Great recs so far, I'm enjoying a lot of what I've managed to track down. So far really digging most of the jazz/post-rock stuff that's been thrown my way. The kei rock groups are mostly good too, although that's more variable.

I noticed some question or other upthread about how broad my definition is of a band; basically I'm willing to be as minimalist as you like. I'll take single artists, duos and anything on up, if I enjoy the music. That also goes for genre diversification; I'm willing to listen to most things once, be they synthpop or ambient drone. I did come to this thread hoping to get some more background on punk/rock elements of Japanese music, but I'm quickly moving in the direction of their jazz too.

I second (or third, or whatever) Boredoms, they are really rather good- but honestly they are really the only Japanese band I know of, so I'm glad this thread exists :)
