Your Favorite Fictional Countries? (Besides Your's On NS)

Postby Aleckandor » Sat May 12, 2012 10:42 pm

Do you have any favorite fictionalized nation from the plot of a book/TV show/movie/video game? If so, list and describe them here, and why you like them.

The following would have to be mine, in the order of which intrigue/get at me most.

1.) The Allied States Of America - From Jericho
Image

Why? Well, I'm a Southern Californian, and therefore, am a Westron American, not that it's something to proud of really (it is, but it isn't, so whatever). IRL, I love the Union and would never forsake her in mind and heart any day. But in Jericho, where most of the entire half of the American West secedes from the country to form the Alliance, that kind of excites me. Imagine. A Second War Between The States. This time, not North and South, but rather, East and West. Like, "There's Major Whats-His-Face standing like an iron wall - rally behind the Californians!", sounds pretty epic if the 'Stars And Rails' (what I call the AS flag) was ever going to be flown for a real nation.

2.) The Federal Republic Of Erusea - From Ace Combat 04
Image

The antagonist nation from the storyline of one of the first combat flight arcade simulator games I ever played in my 14-year old life, Erusea, is one that I also like. Even though they're mainly portrayed as the bad guys, they are really just a desperate and embittered people willing to do anything to gain retribution for what the Ulysses asteroid did to them and their peoples. Plus, the game cutscenes give a very somber and human grace to the character of Yellow 13, the Erusean ace pilot heading the legendary Yellow Squadron. Apart from that, they controlled the Stonehenge Turret Network (some awfully gargantuan ring of low-radiation intercontinental railguns) and Megalith (a heavily armored ballistic missile fortress), which were pretty cool indeed.

we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

Imperium of Mankind (WH40K)

The Federation (Starship Troopers)

The Clans (BattleTech)

The Galactic Empire of Star Wars also comes pretty close to the top.

Gondor from The Lord of the Rings seems fairly nice. For the most part the Federation from Star Trek is decent as well, although its treatment of artificial intelligence is inhumane and its made a few bad calls with foreign policy and security.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear communist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a humanist.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a sensible realistic egalitarian with several strong convictions.
