Quite the opposite, in fact. Aside from a few specific things, one rarely ever sees steampunk anywhere save for the underground. There's only a handful of obscure video games that use steampunk, not a single movie I can think of, and even books and comics rarely enter the territory. It's a fandom that that the mainstream seems determined to thoroughly ignore.

Hey Olly, Dishonored will be a game to feature steampunk. It is made by Bethesda (creator of the Elder Scrolls series).

Dieselpunk is pretty awesome, too, but it just doesn't have the style of steampunk.

Dinky being Derpy's daughter(Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary) is dumb enough. Claiming Sparkler is her daughter too, cause she was with her in Sisterhooves Social, is just moronic.

Because it showcases the fandom's arrogance and inability to let things go when there's no logical reason to hold onto them. For one, there is no reason for Dinky to be Derpy's daughter. Nothing ever indicated that, people just decided to do it because why not? Then, when it was revealed that Dinky has an adult sister, instead of having a moment of introspection and realizing that their headcanon made no sense, they just said, "Fuck it! She's Derpy's daughter, too!" It was the fandom zealously proclaiming that fanon is superior to canon. That's why it's stupid.

Yeah. It's obvious considering the fact that Sweetie Belle raced with "Applejack" that sisters can be substituted. Who's to say Derpy wasn't acting as a substitute? And there's the fact that it's a Sister's Social. If Sparkler is related to Derpy at all, she should be her sister. There wouldn't be any Mother/Daughter pairs.
