Korra seems more stubborn than Makko.

They're both stubborn, but I don't really see how she's more stubborn, other than that scene where she burns down the 2000 year old artifact...and some others...

What I'm saying though is that my argument isn't completely obvious yet, but and the show was definitely not created solely to fulfill this plot idea (that was a joke), but one can surely see elements of the romance desired by Zutara fans, even though, at this point in the series, it is small. It'll be more obvious later. My actual argument, that this new series contains elements desired in the original series by Zutara fans, holds water, even if it's only a few spoonfuls now.

A good argument? Your whole whole argument is "Because she's a waterbender, and he's a firebender, it's supposed to be Zutara!" Give me a break. Guys like you, are why I detest shippers.

And hey, I'm not saying I am a Zutara fan, because I'm not. I'm just saying this series is show signs of having what Zutara fans were looking for (granted, put in a new setting) in the original series.

Exactly. Mako doesn't even give off a stubborn vibe, just a "I don't care" attitude.

This is not about Zuko or Katara, it just shows elements of the romance they could've had. It's not a direct flow of events that would've happened.

NO IT DOESN'T! God, how dense are you? There was never any chance of romance between those two. Zuko sunk that during Ba Sing Se. This show is NOT some proxy relationship sequel, for Zutara. It's The Legend of Korra. Old ships have NOTHING to do with this show.

... Didn't quite expect it like that, but Avatar does have a history of epic shipping wars. Plus series creators who know how fandoms are and intentionally screw with and troll the fans. For all we know, they put a handful of similarities in INTENTIONALLY to get the shippers going.

Shipping War = Naval Battle

A:TLA Naval Battles > Battle of Leyte Gulf

Korra Naval Battles > All of these battles combined?

I'm inclined to agree with this, minus the borderline namecalling.

While it's possible that they may have drawn some inspiration from the ways Zuko and Katara interacted in the first series, I find it highly unlikely that they're remotely intending Korra and Mako as any sort of expy for the earlier what-might-have-been ship. For one thing, while Katara could be pretty stubborn and reckless at times, for the most part she was arguably the most responsible character in the group; she was basically the Team Mom. Korra right now appears to be just a tad full of herself, hot-tempered, impatient, stubborn, and at times incredibly irresponsible; I'm sure her character development will begin to address these flaws, but to compare her to Katara just seems to me a stretch.

Also, I am really not seeing the comparison between Zuko and Mako. Okay, so they both seem to be a tad on the broody side and focused with a sometimes single-minded intensity on a goal. Zuko has the full-blown angst and troubled family history thing going on; he's a troubled teen who really had to face some incredibly tough decisions. From what we've seen of Mako so far, there's not really any evidence of similar; he's just competitive and seemingly rather bored with things outside the scope of his pro-bending career. Granted, we don't really KNOW anything about him yet, so it's possible that some tragic backstory could emerge. (I have my own personal bit of wild mass guessing involving Mako, but until I've seen more of him in action, I'm content to keep it to myself for now. ;) )

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying that one can see the ELEMENTS of the relationship that the original series was starting to imply before Zuko basically killed it in Ba Sing Se. The creators did say they had once toyed with the idea in the series, but abandoned it (as stated in one of those fact bubbles that they have on the reruns of the old series). I'm NOT saying the new series' sole purpose is for Zutara, NOR is the relationship currently being shown/implied/foreshadowed in the series an exact copy of the one that DIDN'T happen, NOR is it a copy of what the creators may have toyed with once. It's like taking a person, removing the skin, flesh, and everything, except for something like eye color, and then reconstructing everything else to look different, except for the eye color.

But yeah, this is just my humble opinion, and I have come across people who vaguely see my point. It's clear at this point neither of us is making any sort of headway on their side of the argument, so, this argument is going nowhere and is pointless, and it's due to everyone partaking in it. You're free, though, to think that I've chickened out, can't accept that I'm wrong, and stormed off the thread mumbling curses to myself about how I'm always right. After all, I see this, with the access to information that we have, a matter of opinion. The only way one of us could truly prove our point is by getting people who are working on the present series and ask them ourselves.

It's all purely speculation with what we have at our disposal.

To be more serious, I doubt it. She probably grew up to be short and stocky. From the statue of her in the police headquarters, she didn't look too attractive. She was also blind so she probably didn't care for looks.

While I do agree that its an obvious set up for a pseudo-Zutara relationship(ie fire v water, energetic versus solitary, etc), I think you're reading far to much into it.

100%? Since when are statues ever 100%? Quite frankly you can't tell much from the statue, but either way she looks pretty damn good IMO.

It's far too early to speculate, but if the authors really do intend on having a romance based on Katara and Zuko's possible relationship. The characters have their differences but have very much that hasn't yet been revealed, it can easily be turned into a spin off if the authors wrote it that way, I doubt it'll be identical or even close but it might very well be close.
