As I'm sure many of you already know, an MMO is a Massively Multiplayer Online game.
An MMO is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously.
By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and usually feature at least one persistent world.
The traditional and most common MMO games are Role-Playing Games or MMORPG's, some well known of these are WOW, EverQuest, TOR, WAR, City of Heroes, and Guild Wars.
A benefit of MMO games is the social aspect of being able to play with other players.
Recently however many players (including myself) have become tired of the traditional MMORPG gameplay and new types of MMO's are starting to hit the market.
These include Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and First-Person Shooter (FPS) MMO games.
There have been some FPS games as well as action games that combined RPG elements such as Mass Effect, Fable, and Mount and blade, but few have made it into the MMO area.
I'd like to talk about the future of MMO gaming and the possibility of adapting the RTS and FPS game play style into MMO games.
I for one would LOVE to see an MMO that avoids the tedious level-grinding and boring combat system and used more "Twitch-Based" combat as seen in action games.
Thoughts?
