The steel type is I think somewhat off-balance. It's not like psychic in RBY, but it has such a vast array of resistances that it does influence the utility of other types. Also IMHO poison really didn't need to be unable to hit steel.

As for overpowered combinations, look no further than Reshiram. Dragon/Fire with a renamed Mold Breaker means nothing can ever resist both its STABs.

I don't think Ghost will ever be paired with Steel, but who knows? I once made a fan-Pokémon that was Ghost/Steel. It was based on the Tsukumogami, like Banette, but instead of being a doll that came to life, it was an action figure, specifically a super sentai robot. It was pretty cool. :p

I was trying to make a monster rancher mod (but failed miserably). One of the "bad monsters" would have been perfect for a ghost/steel. Also, a doll with a straight razor that came to life when your monster died...

I think Steel is fine. Yes it's resistant and defensive as fuck, but it has rather mediocre attack backed by a lackluster move list. Steel can wall pretty much anything, but you'll have a hard time making it offensively useful, save for a few specific examples, like Metagross or Magnezone.

I think it's also because a lot of poke's randomly (can) learn a fire attack (kind of like ice beam or crunch). All the steel types running around who are doubly weak to fire are also nudging it's use up, I bet.

Steel is weak against many types, but it's sometimes tough to break through that defense unless you're hitting it pretty hard. For example, Steelix's defense is freaking high. But steel types can be pretty slow.

But... a regular, neutral special attack can floor him...

And yes, they can be slow. Lucario being the exception.

Random, but has anyone tried out the effectiveness of a Metal Burst using Bastiodon? He seems to be it's only viable user, and was wondering if it was worth investigating.

I've never used Bastiodon as I don't really like it. It's just kinda stupid looking. It seems like it would work, though, as long as you make sure your Bastiodon is slow as fuck. I'm sure Aggron would work, too. It's not as slow as Bastiodon, but it's still pretty slow.

Yeah, a Lagging Tail would certainly work, too. And Aggron can learn Stealth Rock, though only in Gen IV.

According to Bulbapedia, Aggron can learn Stealth Rock in BW by breeding - but the parent (or earlier male ancestor) has to have learnt it by 4th Gen TM. A fair number of Pokemon have ended up that way since Stealth Rock was removed from the TM list.

In Gen IV/Through Gen IV. The point is that you still need Gen IV, and the way I listed is easier and more convenient.

And, obviously, it's perfectly acceptable if you have those newborns breed with each other and/or their parents.

It depends on the Generation. From Gen I-IV, it's clear that the players are younger, likely around the 11-13 range. The players in Gen V, however, are noticeably older, probably around 14-16.

And really, in a world where a child can travel by himself across a whole region basically staging dogfights for money, what's the harm in getting a little something on the side? :p

So if the creators do get around to a sixth generation (I really hope so, I want to have a team composed entirely of grass starter evolutions), how do you think the starters will go? Like what would they be based off, or what types combination?

I want a pumpkin grass starter. I don't know why, I just want to see where that would go. But I really hope the next fire one won't be fire/fighting again. Three times in a row? Really?

I think a jack o lantern would be an awesome grass/ghost poke.

Yeah, that pissed me off, same with a lot of people. Though, I'm pretty confident that it won't be. I can only imagine the bitch fest that would ensue if Game Freak made yet another Fire/Fighting type starter. :p

Never going to happen. The Dragon type is reserved for rarer Pokémon. Plus, with how many goddamn Dragon Legendaries both Gen IV and V had, I'm entirely sick to death of dragons. Fuck dragons. Fuck them up their stupid asses.

There have been some more "ordinary" dragon-types though. Third gen gave us Flygon and Altaria, and 5th Gen gave us Haxorus (mind you he's got a lolhueg attack) and Druddigon. For starter final evos to be part-dragon doesn't seem all that far-fetched, although I would say it's not very likely.

YES! Yes to the jack-o'-lantern. Now that is an interesting idea.

And I am surprised there is only one family of fire/dark type pokemon. It seems like such an obvious combination.

I want to see an electric/dark, grass/dragon, or maybe water/fire. Interesting combination of opposites.
