And I'm sure Gen I had the best names, eh? I mean, with such gems as Seel, Grimer, Ghastly, Butterfree, Graveler, and so many others, it must have. I can really see why the Gen I names are so special.

I should clarify that, while there have always been a few duds, Gen V's duds have, for some reason, really stuck out at me more. Perhaps because the Gen I names have been with me since childhood they don't seem as ridiculous as they are, but the names from Gen V seem different in a way.

I fought against Candice in my Diamante version, my Torterra, Jennifer, lost the first round, and then my Steelix, Tenma, curbstomped the rest of her party.

Looking through a lot of these posts, and seeing yours, it makes me think that everybody nicknames their pokemon. So, do most of you? I never nickname mine. If I get a nicknamed one in a trade, I just make a baby of it and either trade away the nicknamed parent or release it.

I find that nicknames and "improper" genders (A female Machamp? No thank you, release!) ruins my categorizing of my pokemon in the PC. I like to organize them all by final evolution and numerical order. And nicknames just take away from it I guess. :/

Not quite a team, but my female Torchic (supposedly quite rare) had three babies over the course of the game.

was looking through the pokemon i have on ruby, sappire and emerald having a bit of a trip down memory lane when i discovered an aron that i'd caught when i already had one in the same version that i'd gotten really annoyed with because i was tryin to find a different pokemon and i accidently caught it instead, using up my last ultra ball in the prosess so when i was asked if i wanted to nickname the aron i'd just caught instead of selecting no as i usually do when given this option in a fit of rage i selected yes and named the aron FUCK.

I nickname the Pokemon I'm going to use on a regular basis, and sometimes legendaries, and have used a variety of sources for names. Of late I've taken to having connections between the names of different team members, such as my ghost team where all members were named after gaseous elements - Hydrogen, Helium, Fluorine, Neon, and Radon.

Gen I had a seal named Seel. That is unquestionably the most boring, unoriginal, uninspired name that has ever been made for a Pokémon, but what you said is exactly my point: You, and most everyone else, don't care about the boring names from Gen I because you're used to them, i.e. you have your nostalgia goggles on at full power.

Now, I'm not saying Gen I's Pokémon suck or anything, in fact, I love many of them, especially their poison-types. I'm just saying that they're not somehow magically better than every other generation. Each Gen has their good Pokémon and their bad Pokémon, and no matter how many sweeping generalizations people make, that will never not be true.

I don't much care about the Pokémon that go in the PC, but I completely agree with the "improper genders" for the ones in my team. If I'm putting a Gardevoir on my team, then I will only use a female one. However, my Crobat is always male.

As for nicknames, I do name them, usually only the ones in my team, but I have given nicknames to others if I felt like it. I usually try to make my nicknames clever or witty or, at least, references, and sometimes I succeed. However, there is one nickname that I am very proud of. My friend and I were both playing Platinum on release day, and we both ended up catching a Budew. He got his first and gave it some sort of flower-based nickname, as you'd expect for a flower-based Pokémon. Then, when I caught mine, I named her Fluoride. It's a word that sounds like it has something to do with flowers while actually being a poisonous chemical. That was pretty fun. I also liked the name I gave to my Piplup in that game: Tux. It just seemed so appropriate for a penguin, especially one with the ability of "torrent."

I was really into Egyptian mythology/history when I was playing Blue, so that started a tradition of naming my competitive mons after Egyptian gods, kings, or pharaohs. Although I diverge from this at times. My Hail team was named after characters from the North in Game of Thrones, and my pink team was named after pin up models. Also, all normal type pokes get "normal" names, like Joe, Bob, and Kate (and Big Bertha the Slaking). And Whimsicott will always be Whimsicunt.

My pokemon are my slaves, kept for one purpose. I made them, and all that they are is owned to me. Their value is judged by their kill count or breeding potential. They must earn their names.

Lucky. When I wait for a Pokemon game, I sit staring at the computer on Bulbepedia, and wait for it to say it was released. While munching on chocolate.

I'm intrigued by Pokémon Conquest. I like the idea of a new way to explore the pokémon world.

Also, how many people are region specific here? For some reason I can't bring myself to use a pokémon if the final evolution isn't within the dex of the starting region. I know I can probably make better teams by using all regions, but I'm just stuck in my ways.

Right now, I'm starting on Soul Silver and have bred a hell of a lot of eggs. I'm looking forward to my Ice Shard Phanpy. Also doing a few I haven't trained before, or since Gen 2. Donphan, Scizor, Feraligatr, Ampharos and Miltank. Only thing I'm repeating from Heart Gold is a Hypnosis/U-Turn Crobat.
There's a feeling deep inside me,
And it's always there to guide me.
It's in my heart and in my soul,
Leading me to the ultimate goal!
You can try your best this might be fun,
You'll go down in defeat before you've begun!
We are about to commence Operation "Bomb the crap out of your house".

I just like Unova. Layout is simple, and easy. Besides, I'm almost beating my cheat-loving neighbor!!

Unova is the best region. Hoenn was nice, but it had too many flaws, like an over-abundance of water routes. Sinnoh was rather mediocre, same with Johto, but Kanto kinda sucked. It was just a fucking square. So boring.
