I got similarly screwed with Empire.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Large sieges tend to be choppy and slow with a low fps. It gets better as the battle goes on though.

So does anyone here play Third Age TW?
Do you know if the latest update would work with Baron Semedi's submods?

On a whim, I dug out my old copy of M2TW and tried inputting the cd key into Steam.

It worked.

That's been a policy for a while now. In fact, if you have a copy of Rome 1, you can input it there too. :)

Well, it finished downloading, but when I launched it, I heard the menu music, and could see the cursor, but all I could see was a black screen...

I've been playing around with Rome 2 Emperor Edition, though it feels quite different. It has a bit of a Shogun 2 feel to it but at the same time it's much different.

Any tips? I do enjoy playing Syracuse, it has a really good starting point.

Seems the latest Attila patch broke the siege AI...my Aksum campaign was great fun until I found myself facing a Sassanid army of 10,000 men who...did the accordion dance outside my walls for an hour. I guess I'm gonna have to lower my siege battle time limits.

Aksum has proven pretty challenging so far. Essentially the ONLY way you can expand is either to take on the ERE or attack the Sassanids. And either one's going to be a bugger. I decided to go after the Sassanids myself, since I had good relations with the ERE and Nobatia, and awful relations with the Sassanids and their puppets...figured they would attack me anyway.

It went well for a while, but now the ERE is, as usual, at war with half the planet while the Sassanids just have to fight me and the Romans. Of course, they (and their puppets) have chosen to concentrate on me. I've won quite a few stunning victories, but the AI's using the tactic of laying siege to my port cities with armies that can't possibly win, which damages the port buildings and results in my income plummeting. Try to attack them with the garrison army and they just run away. I didn't know the AI could cheese, but apparently they programmed dirty, game exploiting tactics into this one. So basically, despite winning the war handily, I'm on the verge of collapse due to debt and the loss of food from my Arabian colonies.

I play Third Age but I haven't got any Baron Samedi submod. I heard that they slow down the amount of time it takes to end turns in the campaign map. However if I had to download a BS mod it would probably be the "Immortal Nazgul" one.

There is also the Divide and Conquer submod. Is it any good?

I think the Seleucids provide a good faction for mix of units, opponents and difficulty for a beginner, I'd say. It units a predominately Hellenistic feel with some eastern influence, including some utterly sweet cavalry and access to Indian Armoured Elephants, as well as straddling the eastern and Hellenistic world tends to give you a good mix of factions to fight, and even some Gallic if the Galatians survive, which they have a tendency to do. Even the Steppe factions aren't far away.

Difficulty wise, I've found that although your opponents tend to be numerous they're also generally relatively easy to defend against with your units and geography working towards your advantage. It is actually easier than it use to be, where I was simply having to fight every single faction east of Mesopotamia which mean't I had about two armies stationed there having to fend of 12+ enemy armies. Eastern spearmen maybe garbage, but pikemen can only handle so many javelinmen and slingers. Now it is way more manageable.

I never went with elephant generals as a Selecucid player. I think Hellenic Cataphracts are way sexier.

Maybe if the Syrian Elephants were an option, perhaps.

Welp, you're missing out. Cataphracts are sexy, but not nearly as insanely effective and crushingly winning.

Will the total war developers make a modern total war soon? I mean the time between 1830 and about 1900?

That was my idea for the next one, incidentally. Revolutions of 1848, Franco-Prussian War, Austro-Prussian War, Scramble for Africa, whole world map with all Opium Wars, American Civil War, etc.

They didn't ask for my opinion, though. Hah.

So I must pose a question, inspired by the poll on this thread. What about the Imperium of Man draws so many people into it's sphere of influence? On NS I personally see a lot of Imperium lovers and am myself a person who enjoys the rigidity of the Imperium. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this.
