Empire is certainly my favorites, and I might be marginal here, but my favorite nation is the Ottomans. I know, they don''t have the best land, and their government is a bit faulty at the start, but if you keep shuffling advisers around at the start, you get a pretty stellar lineup. Plus, you're the nation who can reach India the fastest; just punch through Persia and snatch up the Muhgal territories (already quite Muslim). That gives the economic base for the invasion of Austria and Russia. Alot of people disagree with me on this, normally. Does anybody else love the Ottomans>

Pro: Masculism, Federalism, Mixed Economy, Choice (Father's and Mother's), Homosexual Rights, Atheism, Ottomanism, A New Civilian Conservation Corpse, United States of America, EU, Turkey, China.

Anti: Modern Western Feminism, Corporatism, Anarchy (all kinds), Arogent religions (Read Christianity and Shiite Islam), Iran, Russia, Mexico.

Ooh, I forgot about the Ottomans. I like them. too. I always try to do exactly that, but I end up doing it far too late and I get annihilated. Its great fun, though.

SWEET! I'll do that when I re-install MTW II (my computer had fucked up earlier last year so I lost all of my games that I had installed).

Works with Rome and the various expansions. Not with Med I or Shogun I afaik and not with games from Empire onwards (cos Steam is tyranny.)

Although I liked the gameplay of Shogun, i disliked the balance of power.

Mori- you can have awesome units!
Uegsi- You can have the best farmlands and gold deposits!
Hojo- You can build castles cheaper and faster!
Imagawa- You can have the best and cheapest spies and assasins!

Shimazu (My favourite)- Hhhmm, you know the worst unit in the game? Yeah, yours can be slightly better than everyone else's- not much better, but marginally better.

Its like they ran out of advantages!

I've turned off read only on the descr_strat file and went to save but it says access denied. I have steam downloaded, would it be that stopping me from saving?

Had this problem before. You can ever make everything in Program Files non-read only or c&p everything in descr_strat and then delete the original file, saving the new as descr_strat in either Computer > Drive C > Program Files > Sega > Medieval II Total War > Date > World > Maps > Campaign > Imperial Campaign or in My Documents and moving it across manually.

Original Medieval was badass. My biggest problem was controlling constant, massive revolts. I still remember Richard Lionheart, my max stats ass kicker. I had him sitting on Rome for the constant double stack of papists that rose up every 2 turns.

Do you want to know how to make that happen to the entire map? Because I did that... had to do some time travelling because I didn't have a few spare hours to fix it. (Would have been fixable, I had 500 + men almost everywhere.)

The Papacy always come back. They are the only faction where it is guaranteed to happened (although some, like the Almohads, re-emerge too frequently as well).

Rome: Brutii, Greece or Parthia. Rome, because their, well, everything gets so ridiculously powerful by the end of the game. Greece because tightly packed phalanxes rock. Defending bridges and cities is the easiest thing ever. Parthia...well, I distinctly remember several battle against Pontus or Egypt where I destroyed whole stacks while losing about a dozen men. (Though I really, really hate chariot archers.) Those poor eastern infantry, trying to fight horse archers...though, trying to defend cities as Parthia is practically impossible.

Rome BI: Franks for infantry (though I like the Eastern Romans too) Or Huns for horse archers again. I once sent the Franks into horde mode, and tracked them down with a stack of elite horse archers, fought and destroyed the whole 10,000 man horde in one epic battle. T'was glorious. But then the Huns run into the same problem of having shitty infantry incapable of defending cities.

Medieval: England or the Turks. England for decent infantry and awesome longbowmen, and the Turks for more horse archers. Sensing a theme? No, really. A well-handled stack of Sipahi horse archers is more than a match for a mongol horde stack. Fighting European infantry really isn't fair.
