Since another team is working now n the next historical title and have been since at least the release of WH1 I'm wondering if they are making a new engine with plans for its inclusion in their return to historical games because of how long it's taking.

I'm personally looking forward to the oft' rumoured 'Victoria' myself

My hope isn't for a new engine, just for a really expansive game, something that really builds on some of the revolutionary stuff that's been in the most recent games.

Honestly the best part about the announcement has been the historical fans losing their minds.

Okay, Empire, Napoleon, and FOTS. Meanwhile, we've had Shogun, Shogun 2, and... FOTS.

I'm just saying that even if it's where the series started, Japan remains an obscure and esoteric setting.

Irrelevant, the statement was:
The first Galactic Republic wrote:Frankly I'm not sure why they chose relatively obscure medieval Japan before the classical Mediterranean, medieval Europe, or the theatres of the Seven Years War anyways.

To which I answered:

The Empire of Pretantia wrote:Maybe they liked Japan?

Which the point, that it is an "obscure" setting, is irrelevant to.

And really? Nobody's heard of Japan? Because that's what obscure means. Everybody's heard of Japan, therefore it's not obscure.

Those are spin-offs.

>Same gameplay as TW
>Same theme as TW
>Even the setting is pretty much the same as Empire and Rome, minus European Colonies 1 and 2 for the former and plus stinky barbarians for the latter
>Pretty much direct sequels in all but name to the previously mentioned games

No, they're main games. Warhammer is more of a spinoff than Napoleon and Attila.
Even if you don't agree, Empire is older so there's that.

By a year. Boo hoo, you didn't like Napoleon and you've been waiting foreeeeeeevvvvveeeeeeerrrrrr for an Empire 2.

I've been waiting for Medieval 3 and I'm not complaining about this decision. Probably because I like Warhammer, but hey, all the more reason for me to look forward to this next game.

1. If you're going to count Fall of the Samurai then you can also count the Genpai Wars DLC.

4. Don't like obscure? How about unimportant? That one get you all riled up?

73. "Boo boo some people want things I don't want. I build my identity around video games so much that someone wanting something I don't want is a personal affront to me."

Don't be so egocentric. How is someone wanting a sequel to something you don't like bad in anyway? Just don't respond then. Given you've talked about FOTS so I guess we can bring up DLCs, Japan got four installments and Empire is just one. Napoleon is related but truncated the map significantly while barely touching on the same social, political, and economic themes. What an undeserved persecution complex that someone asking for Empire II is interpreted as a personal jab at your ego when your favorite period is represented in more games than any other TW setting.

They also made Total Warhammer, which is quite unimportant as a setting.

Step away from the computer and take a breath. Breathe in, breathe out. Now let's do stretches. Stick your right arm straight up and place your right hand between your shoulder blades behind your back. Grab your elbow with your opposite hand, and lean slightly to the left. Hold for 20-30 seconds. Good, now repeat, this time with the left arm. Now let's do lunges.

A few thoughts:

Another Warhammer? Yeah, well, whatever.

Not another historical "title"? Well, it does make a difference that the era hasn't been announced... it doesn't seem real.

Obscure Japan? The key word was"relatively"... so if you assume the major audience of Total War is English speaking... anything outside of Europe's past is relatively obscure. That's just how the world works. But, in general, Japan is not obscure and nor are samurai. Indeed, it must be said that "feudal" Japan is pretty much literally the only other example of "feudal" society one finds in childrens' history books.

What is a new, as yet not announced, historical era likely to be? If you take Victoria as including pre-1837 or the going ons in FOTS, that's out. Something Chinese is always a possibility, very vogue right now that sort of thing. But the (English) Civil War/Thirty Years' War idea floated above (they overlap) is another interesting proposition. So, probably one of those two (but something Chinese is very, very vague).

As to whether they ought to focus on historical or fantastic settings? Let's just say, if I want to "waste" my time playing games, I very rarely choose ones that aren't historical (but, obviously, it all blurs into fantasy in some sense*). Um... what is Age of Mythology?

*Unless you really dig the Great Man theory of history (or Great Woman... both are equally derided)... because whatever else Total War has going for it, it doesn't really reflect process or stochastic theories of history much.
That it Could be What it Is, Is What it Is

Stop making shit up, though. Links, or it's a God-damn lie and you know it.

The normie life is heteronormie

We won't know until 2053 when it'll be really obvious what he should've done. [...] We have no option but to guess.

If they made a title between the time periods of Medieval and Empire I can see an English Civil War DLC.
