I can't tell what you're saying, do you hate right wing music or left wing music or what.

If it's good enough I don't care.

Most political music is gash though.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. I don't care about politics. Their prerogative, not mine.

Unless said politically-driven lyricism is obscene and ruins the music in someway, I don't really care about it.

So, what's everyone's opinions on rap (any kinds)? I saw that rap being dead thread and was wondering what your opinions are on it, but I didn't think it would be fitting to ask this over there. So do you like rap? Do you have favorite kinds of rap? Favorite rappers?

Like some of Kanye West's stuff.

Love Straight Outta Compton.

Ehhh Death Grips sound interesting. real dark like. Not very knowledgeable when it comes to hip hop unfortunately.

oh and gorillaz are great.

Yeah, I'm very hip hop impaired I guess (I don't listen to it that much, but I tend to like some stuff I come across). I do like some of the old rap stuff, and Kanye's recent album is pretty cool as well.

I'm more into trip-hop than hip-hop tbh. Gorillaz, Nas, Nujabes, Cunninlynguists, and De La Soul really hit my fancy.

None of those are really trip-hop except for maybe Nujabes. Trip-hop is more like Portishead and Massive Attack I think.

That being said, I really like Nas and De La Soul, and CunningLynguists is pretty good too.

Unity; a gathering of open wounds,
of dark... of dark clean spirits...
what a dream... what a dream so distant!
Why should I... why should I be alone

so please let me die in silence...

I worded that stupidly, I should have switched the sentences around. :v

I just realized how small my trip hop collection actually is :l

Oh, ok. Improve your communication skills, Wied, you confuse people :p

I heavily prefer hip hop to trip hop. The only trip hop I've heard that I like is a few tracks by Portishead and Massive Attack. But then again, I haven't heard much else.

A genius piece of music by Prince.

He was 25 when he wrote this. I repeat, 25.

Oh dear.

Nothing will ever match the goosebumps I get when listening to Oblivion. Seriously, Mastodon's pretty much dulled my taste for anything else.

For any serious music lover, I suggest they check out Prince's "classic" period of albums:
Dirty Mind
Controversy
1999
Purple Rain
Around The World In A Day
Parade
Sign "o" The Times
Lovesexy
The Black Album

Nine albums, from 1980-1988, that were absolutely mindblowing. The early albums were very funk/new wave based and inspired by punk trends, but by Around The World In A Day/Parade he was channeling 60's psychedelic themes and James Brown esque funk. Also a lot of experimental music.

Will check out the band you mentioned as well!

I'm not really a fan of Prince. :v I like him, and think he's better than like Michael Jackson and stuff but I could never get into it.

I completely get it. Prince isn't really an "accessible" artist really.

By the way, I don't listen to much metal, but that song you mentioned is actually pretty good. (I find it interesting to see differences in music tastes.)

Immortal Technique is my favourite rapper after Eyedea. He's an extremist, sure, but at the end of the day his political lyrics compliment him as an artist.

"Toast to the Dead" is my favourite song of his.
