Nickelback is leagues worse than Muse (I actually like Muse less then I used to), and there are things that are way worse then Nickelback.

I have the feeling a lot of people have a kneejerk reaction to pop because it's pop and not because a song may or not be bad.

It seems like whenever I hear an English language song I like I look it up and it's Swedish.

I like Sabaton too.

To me it's standard modern rock stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but I feel Closer brings more to the table.

I'm not a Muse fan either, but I mean that Nickelback is so universally regarded as terrible it's not fair to Muse to use that as a comparison. I'm not really sure what band to compare Nickelback too. Nickelback is in its own category.

Meh. Nickelback isn't abysmally bad. I have heard worse, but still I cannot get through a Nickelback song.

I'll try those after I go through more Muse songs. Why did I not know about Muse sooner? I definitely like this band. Uprising is now on my list of favourite songs.

Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares may be more accessable in comparison to the anti-musical terrorist cell Merzbow, but those electronic renegades also know how to make twisted sounds.

On that subject, where should I start with Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares, if you got suggestions?

I love Selected Ambient Works Volume II by Aphex Twin but it's probably not a good place to start. It's 2 and a half hours and very abstract. The Richard D James Album is really good too and more song-oriented. Venetian Snares I only have Songs About My Cats but it's great. Very warped and noisy.

Imagine Dragons are pretty much the definition of bland and mainstream.

What I like about it is the minimalist synth. Without that, I would not like the song.

I don't consider Imagine Dragons to be bland.
As for the "mainstream" part, a band being successful doesn't automatically mean it's bland. System of a Down is "mainstream", along with Metallica.

Also, I have no idea what genres Des likes other than that one Kings of Leon song, so I had to work with that to find something somewhat similar.
