nothing else stands out to me so it's probably going to top my list
then again going through 2013 albums i've heard i seem to think lots of them are from last year and not this one so take that as you want.

Same. I reserve 10 for the things I like absolute best in a category and can't see ever being outright bested by anything. They have to almost give me an orgasm with their awesomeness to even qualify. The idea of 1 a year seems odd for me. I think I have one or two things I give a 10/10 to in total over all categories of things.

In fact, there's only even one 9.9 album that I can think of

Not really a 10/10, more like a 8/10.

I have been strangely more generous with TV shows, movies, and games when giving things a 10, when I do rate something high. I gave Game of Thrones a 10. I gave Bridge to Terabithia a 10 because it had such a big part in my childhood, and changed me as a person. But do those really deserve a 10 entirely? I'm not sure.
My Game of the Year, The Last of Us, I pretty much give a 10 in all aspects. It has my Soundtrack of the Year, my Story of the Year, some of the best characters, and so on and so forth, but I don't know if 10's being generous or not.
Meanwhile, I can't think of one album I'd probably rate a 10 anymore. Before, sure, but now? Not really any.Calorax wrote:No year has ever produced a ten

I am someone who isn't a fan of 5 star ratings, so I always go with 10 stars (Which is why I dislike Netflix' rating system), but I don't think I could rate things BETWEEN each star properly at all
I could use Anthony Fantano's system, though. A light 9, strong 9, that sort.Mayane wrote:And don't put Lorde her album as #1, because Buzzcut Season is weak, so is Still Sane and White Teeth Teens is meh-tier.

I was thinking a 7 for my rating or so. Maybe an 8 if I'm being generous.
I like it, but I still wouldn't rate it that high to be honest.
Either way, that's a huge step up from the 4's and 5's (if not worse) I'd usually rate a mainstream pop album, if I ever fully listened through a pop album on the radio.Atletius wrote:My 10/10s are Random Access Memories and In Love, by Daft Punk and Peace respectfully.
I'd give Random Access Memories a 5 for me, honestly. Only really liked 3 songs quite a bit and the rest were pretty boring for me.
I have a few 9/10's this year I'd say but that's about it. Shaking the Habitual is definitely a 9, and General Dome I am thinking of it as a 9 but I'm not entirely sure yet. Which is why Shaking the Habitual is my top album because I'm not unsure about that one at all.

There's some good songs certainly, but overall I didn't think it was that special.
Just my opinion of course.Atletius wrote:Anyone listen to In love??
Not me.

cf. employees at a studio needed a 80% rating on metacritic to get bonuses but since most reviewers gave it 4/5, which is considered a good score, it ended up just shy of an 80%, about 78 if i recall
rating with numbers takes away from the actual review aspect of the piece. you're either giving too much thought to the number score, and then why even bother writing a review, or it's a useless tack on that's better explained in writing anyway.
