Because they don't know the genre's origins, since it's underground. Here are a couple examples of actual screamo.

Meh. Kind of boring, not really my thing. It's just not very interesting music.

NO.

Screaming + emo = Screamo

If it doesn't have the emo, it is NOT screamo!!

Did you hear past the first minute of each? The whole point of screamo is dynamics.

Hmm, I didn't mind the first 2. Last one wasn't my thing though.

I don't know what really constitutes 'emo' and 'screamo', but I've had bad experiences with what I think 'might' be those genres:

Screamo or Emo{?} (Or just shit):
Attack Attack!
Underoath
Breathe Carolina
Family Force Five. This song honestly does always give me a laugh....so I guess something good came out of it.
Dashboard Confessional
Yellowcard
Madina Lake

I personally think these are all shit that I just posted, but yeah, that's me.

Now I need to cleanse myself....

Yeah uh, those are all far from emo and screamo.
Except Dashboard Confessional, but they're a bit of a stretch and I never had a fondness for them anyway.

A lot of people don't know any emo or screamo artists. Even the scene kids commonly associated with emo have absolutely no idea who the fuck Rites of Spring or Cap'n Jazz are.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA. The Metalcore scene here is massive. It's mostly better bands than Attack! Attack! that are popular, but the principle is the same. I shamefully hang out with some of these guys. I was hanging out with a dude with gauges, noserings, and a Bring Me The Horizon shirt today. I constantly torment them on their ignorance, though, so it's ok.

Emo was born out of Hardcore Punk. Examples of Emo are Moss Icon, Rites of Spring, Native Nod, etc.

Screamo was born out of Post-Hardcore, examples include Funeral Diner, Saetia, Envy, etc. Screamo can be dynamic or can be incredibly fast and chaotic.

Holy shit 10/10 everyone's mad.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

Yes sir, whatever you say, sir

Every screamo song has screaming, however not every screaming song is screamo.

Now, stop being so ignorant and deal with the fact that bands like Daughtry and Nickelback are absolute shit compared to bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral.

I had the rare occasion to find a song I actually like on the radio. That doesn't happen all that often. It was a song that my dad showed me a while back, that I couldn't figure out if I entirely liked it or not. I figured it was just one of those artists that took a few listens to get used to, and it seemed to be the case. The guy seems to have a fairly big variety though. It was just the sudden clash of music in the song kinda cut me off guard, in a good way. Just what was thrown into the song on the radio wasn't what I expected to be added to a song with that kind of singing.

Anyway, here's a few songs by Alex Clare:
Too Close.
Treading Water
Whispering

There's also another good artist, Timba Harris (He's a part of a bunch of bands, or was), but his musics barely on YouTube and not on Spotify....

Gotye has some pretty good stuff and I'm kind of surprised that he's broken into the mainstream. Hopefully it opens the gate for artists like St. Vincent.
