How are we for Blues/Reggae fusion around here? Anyone heard of Brushy One String before?

Blues is excellent. Reggae isn't really my thing.

Corrian wrote:So I have been pointlessly trying to figure out what the difference between experimental music and avant-garde music is. For a while it seemed like pretty much the same thing.

From what I have noticed, experimental seems to more be like highly strange and bizarrely done versions of other genres and whatnot, like Hella that is a mash of noise rock and math rock, and whatever they're doing turns it into an experimental version of that. The whole album can be in the same general realm of genres and still be classified as experimental. I've seen this with a few bands.

Avant-garde seems to be more focused on being a mesh of a bunch of genres, and if you're staying around the same genre throughout your entire album, you're not really classified as avant-garde. Except avant-garde metal, but even those mesh all sorts of weird genres with metal. Secret Chiefs 3, Ulver, and so on being good examples because a lot of their albums can't really be classified as one genre, and neither can specific songs half the time.

I don't know if this is accurate, but eh.

Kind of figured something like that, I only have one album tagged as Avant-Garde though, that's Trout Mask Replica, because it really doensn't fit any genre. Experimental is not something I like to use though, because experimental may not be so experimental anymore after a few years.

He plays it more like blues than reggae, it's just a little bit of flavouring. Very good though.

So I ended up hitting 16 full length albums yesterday and 5 EP's. I was going to go for 17 but I couldn't stay awake long enough to finish the last Why? album.

I have a lot of Avant-Garde bands, mostly because of my dad. Avant-garde is great when done well, but there are also avant-garde bands that are like "Look at us! We're avant-garde!", without really being interesting.

Not a huge fan of either. But I just haven't really tried to delve into any of those yet.

Not really. A lot of "avant-garde metal" is like that but that's not what "avant-garde" means.

I just performed the Pathetique Sonata by Beethoven, giving the best performance I have ever given. I even made my teacher cry.

I love reggae. Never explored blues but I've been wanting to.
Never heard of this guy but I'll check him out later.

There's not really that much reggae to it, it's just a flavour given to the blues (imo, anyway).

Listening to it now...those are definitely reggae vocals over a blues instrumental.
I love it.

I've come across a rip of Osamu Sato's Equal. It's like Vangelis on acid.

Good Vangelis, not the shitty stuff he puts out now.

Really? Pretty much every avant-garde band I know usually merges a whole bunch of genres together into this weird song, or the albums have like 20 different genres throughout.

Would anyone happen to know of a...repository for obscure/lost artists? Because I've lost track of one guy and he seems to have disappeared. Or at least, I'm having trouble relocating him, being as my Google-fu isn't strong and his name was eYe.

Because it's the mirror universe version of post rock?

At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.
