Hipsters aren't even original. The stuff they claim is obscure is generally really entry level.

Really? My local (misleadingly named) "classic rock" station which rarely plays anything from before 1980 at least plays Pink Floyd's greatest hits. They're an old classic like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, or Black Sabbath. If you don't like the band, fine, but don't disregard its status in society.

To me they dont have one. Mettalica, Mega deth, AC/DC, and bands like that were far more influental to me. Then again im a metal head, although my list may not suggest that i am.

...on you, perhaps. Sales do not a classic make (fuckin' boy bands), but Pink Floyd apparently had a large fanbase. Big surprise, right?

Ladies, please, calm down. Pink Floyd is an incredibly famous and influential group. Whether you like them or not. I find it hilarious you would even consider Megadeth to be more influential than them. That said, you both appear to be everyday dad rockers.

Could someone explain to me what exactly a hipster is, in my day they were a kind of jeans? I think someone on here called me one once because of the films I like. I am happily not 'down with the kids' so I have no idea if the person was trying to insult me or not.

Jeez, do you get all your ideas about music from Rolling Stone? There was a preponderance of underground rock in the 80s, including grunge, and only anything to "save" music from if you're ignoring everything outside the top 40.

Also, how much post-90s rock are you aware of?

Properly used, it should refer to these people.

More commonly, its a word used by idiots to describe people with music tastes less broadly popular than their own.
