Jesus this is more insane than asking who the greatest band or album of all time is. I honestly believe this is impossible to say.

That doesn't necessarily make it a good song.

Also true.

expanding markets for the western media to sell it's churned out brand of shit to mean more and more people are going to be getting interested in the baser foundations of music, ie pop.

and i dunno if they're gonna rerelease a load of old pop songs as singles.

Sadly. and didn't they already? I have a feeling that they did... I'm probably wrong.

Don't Stop Believin' is good, but as far as Journey goes, I prefer Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).

Art is not a popularity contest.

Don't Stop Believin' is also a trashy pop song, it's just old and on TV a lot.

Can't believe nobody has posted "Imagine" by John Lennon.

By the way, obviously this thread has no clear right answer, but I think if you have to post a link to show what you are talking about on this thread, that's probability not the right answer. If it has a chance of being the best song in history, most everyone should know what song you are talking by title & artist don't you think?

Edit: My joke answer, the Theme to the Twilight Zone by the Grateful Dead. 3 notes over & over, & over again! :p

No, not at all. Infact that would qualify some truly terrible music and disqualify music that genuinely does have a chance of being some of the finer feats of the human race.

Kill Your Heroes, by Awolnation is my current favorite and most played. Very symbolic, and something I've pretty much lived by.

As for best song in history... no way to compare. Scientifically it probably came from the 60s, so, White Room?

Looking for porn for so long on Youtube, and hearing that song so much, I finally learned to love it. Now its in a certain playlist of mine.

Oh snap that's right.

Still... pick a Cream or Zeppelin song, I think it comes from one of those two.

Ehhh, I have to disagree there. It's really a subjective opinion, though.

I wouldn't go with Cream or Zeppelin unless you mention Stairway to Heaven, which I only put because it can actually be considered, unlike about all of there other songs...but still, I wouldn't say that either. Too...I think the word I'm looking for is "cliche" (tell me if I'm using the word incorrectly please, I've never quite understood it).

At the moment, of all the songs I have listened to (admittedly not many), one has stayed with me since I first heard it a year ago: "Do You Hear the People Sing" from Les Miserables (specifically the 25th Anniversary version sung by Ramin Karimloo). Perhaps not objectively history's greatest song - I have my biases and a limited selection from my memory to choose from - but certainly mine.

Is it even a competition? Obviously it's this one; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cURnpjT4Z-M

I mean, a children's song with lyrics such as these - it's really a no-brainer

''Would you like some coconuts?
I got a pair already.
How about some Mango shots?
I better ask my daddy.
You should try my kiwi tree.
