Made a Target run today and managed to pick up Scrapper and Overload. In general, I’ve noticed the Studio Series Constructicons are shelfwarmers. At least, they’re usually available when all other voyager and leader figures are gone. Maybe kids don’t really want the crayon colored monster bots that only turn into construction vehicles. Hey, fine by me. Devastator, once a grossly optimistic prospect, isn’t that far away now.

And fun fact, Target’s systems classify Overload as a voyager. He’s only thirty bucks there.

Can't wait to see the completed Devastator combiner; even I have to admit I like the movie design for him, questionable wrecking balls aside

Overload is the one I've yet to see. I've got it pre-ordered on BBTS. And he's the last one I need to complete my Studio Series Devastator.

The figure does not have the wrecking balls. I'm sure however some 3P company will come along with an add-on kit though.

I ended up canceling my pre-order on Maverick. It was mainly because budgeting will be tight soon, but that plastic color kind of turned me off to the figure in the end.

It’s a good looking jet mode though. Hopefully they’ll use the mold again.

I have no idea what the deal is with Hasbro and the shoddiness of their stock photos in comparison to TakaraTomy's; even if the actual toy looks better IRL, I'm already turned off by the bad lighting and the mistransformed details tbh

Although maybe Maverick's figure actually looks as weirdly colored as it does in the promo pics, I dunno

Can we just leave it at that Hasbro's stock photos suck?

Absolutely; whoever's in charge of their photography deserves to get the boot

I think the issue is that they hire photographers who don't know anything about the figures. They need to hire better photographers.

I'm assuming the photographers are the ones who transform the figures, too? Because that would explain the sheer number of mistransformed details on so many of them

That would make sense, given the overall lack of quality I've seen so far in these photos.

Spending money on 'better' photographers would be a total waste of money tbh. Like Hasbro is a business and they feel that having their photographers (whether they're in-house or an outsourced external company) doing the stock photos for all their toylines is a better spending of their money than hiring ones specifically for the one line they have that're more complex than regular action figures in order to satiate nerds on the internet.

That's perfectly fair, but then why would TakaraTomy go through the effort to consistently use photographers that are several magnitudes better than Hasbro's if it would be a waste of money?

I wouldn't be surprised if a big reason is because Japan still has magazines dedicated to things like toys and action figures published to the general market.

Like you're probably gonna care more about how your toy looks in photos if it's gonna potentially be printed on the pages of a magazine rather than just used online, you know?

It's a shame America doesn't really do that; it'd be nice to have something like Dengeki Hobby in the States, but I can understand how it probably wouldn't take off

Those ‘86 Studio Series figures honestly look pretty good. There’s still a few Bayverse characters I hope they do though.

Honestly I'm more into the Titans Return rereleases/redecos since they have the Takara faces and I prefer the Headmasters anime head designs for those characters. It's great so now I could get them without needing to pay like $50-70 for Deluxes.

I just hope they actually do more than just Chromedome, Hardhead, Brainstorm, and Mindwipe. Hope they give us Highbrow, Weirdwolf, and Skullcruncher too.

(Also wonder how many casuals will see them on the shelves with their retro-styled packaging and think they're reissues of the original G1 Headmasters?)

I’d scoop up Voyager Octane, or “Octone”, if he got rereleased. Maybe Blitzwing too.

If they do those, let's hope they eschew the shite stickers from the original Hasbro releases.

I don’t suppose anyone is looking at the new Battlegrounds game?

I kinda want it. It looks like a fun little XCOM romp, and it isn’t full priced either. I also liked Cyberverse a lot.

Got ER Cliffjumper today, he's pretty fun. I know he's small but damn his transformation is kinda nuts with how he basically flips the position of his rear and front when going from car to robot. (I know he cheats with the backpack/rear of the car, but whatever)
