It may be a bandwagon to some, but not to all, not to me at least. I just like it because I do. Otherwise I wouldn't keep myself up until four in the morning drawing and coloring pictures of ponies eating pizza for a bunch of people on the Internet.

I suggest at least watching a full episode. Normally I'd advise you to watch them all for a complete opinion, but you should be good with one, maybe two if you're watching the first episode at least.

And hey don't be turned off by the show because of its fanbase. Fanbase isn't everything, and trust me we aren't representative of the whole as it is.
