I generally think of jazz fusion as being jazz with rock elements (among other things), not vice versa.

Fusion tends to be extremely virtuosic.

Yeah, my sig is just an album containing some of my Pony Flags instead of having to look them all up when needed.

This thread is officially a pony thread. Congrats, now bronies dictate threads on NSA/F.

So, who here plays in a jazz band or can play a traditional jazz instrument?

I play piano, which is often used in jazz, but I really don't know anything jazzy, unless you count ragtime or novelty piano as jazz (which it really isn't, but often gets lumped in).
I’m mostly here for... something to do, I suppose.

Yeah, I really wouldn't count ragtime as jazz. It was a precursor though...

I do want to learn jazzier styles though, the problem is I have absolutely no confidence in my improvisational abilites. That's what you get in methods that train you for the classical world...

Just so we're all clear, Wynton Marsalis and Kenny G are NOT jazz.

Shittiness is incompatible with jazzness. The two are mutually exclusive.

Thank you very fucking much.

So...what of the more recent music holds your interrest?

Dude, I was trying to make a reference to a song in the 1930s. I guess witty comments don't travel through the internet tubes...

That would imply that your comment was of any actual intellectual value, but nevermind...which song was it then?

Well I play guitar and I used to play sax when I was much younger. Bass too. I don't think harmonica is a 'traditional' jazz instrument, is it?

we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

Well yeah but he's accepted it and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Wied needs to admit he's a /mu/tant :/

Listening to King Crimson and saying "plebeianosity" doesn't make you a /mu/tant.

I sometimes go to /mu/ but don't take it too seriously. It's basically a version of /b/ that doesn't have porn, doesn't have a new page every 2 seconds and is themed around hipster music.

Wynton Marsalis is a jazz musician, just a stuck-up, douchey one.

Kenny G doesn't even play jazz. His music doesn't have blue notes or improvisation or cymbal-oriented drum work or double bass or really any trait associated with jazz except for saxophones. He plays bland and fairly genre-neutral "smooth" sax over music lacking in jazz characteristics.
