Strapping Young Lad is goddamn brilliant. "Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing" is not only a great satirical title for a debut album, it's also quite simply a great album. Granted, those sourpusses who are convinced that extreme metal and a healthy sense of humour are mutually exclusive may disagree, but that's perfectly allright as far as I'm concerned. They are their own worst enemies, after all.

*shrug* The album name is better than the content. I don't really mind mixing a sense of humour into metal (remember, I love SOD), I just don't really care for SYL.

There you and I disagree, but that's ok. Granted, SYL's second album "City" is a significant step up in comparison with the debut, but SYL's first violent outburst shall forever hold a special place in my heart.

I know a fairly mellow album (Not entirely) named "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will"

They also have a sad, slow album called "Happy Songs For Happy People"

Andy james' self-titled is a damn fantastic record. I don't know a ton of instrumental bands, though. What ones are you listening to?

Well, I actually don't know a ton of instrumental metal bands either, but I've listened to genres like post-rock that are a majority of the time instrumental, so I have a thing for instrumental music. But there are some noteworthy things I at least deem to be metal on some level, even though two of the things I'm thinking of don't really get called that.

Well, there's this one Mogwai song (Sounds incredible live, too, even though this is a very high quality live recording, clearly). Despite them being a post-rock band, I consider this to be some pretty damn heavy "rock" music. But post-rock is known for being quite heavy when it wants to be...It's not all just boring crescendo rock.

And this one called "Dub Trio" that doesn't really play dub music anymore (They have dub influences), and gets classified as "Math rock" and "mathcore" (and some alternative metal, apparently), but I just ended up labeling metal...I mean, maybe it is just heavy math rock. That exists as well. But still.

And one of my favorites, Al Qaynah, which is an Afghani metal band.

And honestly other than that I don't have THAT many instrumental metal bands, more just songs. Besides drone metal, but well, it's drone metal and I know not everyone likes their metal slow :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuRshEPqEzc Oh, and I like this, but this is really out of place metal saturated with a lot of stuff (Including ambient music)

Edit: Oh, and of course some more heavy post-"rock"

I like it. Hell, retro wave is instrumental like 80% of the time
Oh wait, you said metal. Well, I like that too. Not sure if I have many instrumental-only bands tho.

Alright, metallers, metalheads, metal fans, or whatever you'd like to be called,

I'm heading off to a concert pretty soon here, and I want to try to get front row, and also have lots of fun and enjoy the music, so, besides the obvious stuff like not wearing the shirt of the band you're seeing or wearing a good pair of shoes or boots (not my first metal concert, but it's going to be my first time actually be on the floor (ended up with a side seat on an elevated section). So any particular experiences you'd like to share, any tips, any things to try, any of that kind of stuff would be nice to hear.
