Also, what is the best Immortal album? I decided that I will give at least ONE of their albums a fair chance before dismissing them altogether. I just don't think I could handle a bunch of black metal like that.

I like Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, but then again I like my black metal grim and lo-fi.
Pure Holocaust is pretty worthwhile too.
Just listen to them all, since Immortal's sound evolved over their career and maybe their newer blackened thrash sound will be appealing even if the early stuff isn't, or vice-versa.

Grim and lo-fi? Ever listened to Ildjarn?

All Shall Fall. Or At the Heart of Winter.

So I got 2 recommendations for 3 albums again, probably the ones I had before...Damn it which one to pick?! Clearly they're the favoritesCosumar wrote:Melechesh is awesome. 'nuff said. I love middle-eastern melodies in metal.
What album should I start on? I've dug what I've heard so far for the most part.

average with great moments.
ts;en: this album was boring but I did enjoy it quite a bit. Highlights of the album was Lombardo's drumming and a few solos. Other than that it was meh vocals and meh rhythms

How do you people go "meh" about most of an album and give it a freaking 9?

But do you know which one your dad was listening to? Maybe you should start with whichever one you were already digging.
They also have a new album out in a month. Dat album cover.

Ah, that seems like it might become an issue.
Part of Vidar Vaaer's motivation for ending Ildjarn was due to his 4-track recorder breaking (the same 4-track recorder used during Emperor's early days as Thou Shalt Suffer).
Everything must sound the same! Without my tape deck there cannot be anymore Ildjarn!
