Gothic metal's pretty good, from what I've heard. 'Course I can see how it could go bad, I haven't listened to too much, but let's not rag on it too much.

Both metalcore and gothic metal have some shitty mainstream bands, and some really great bands.

Good gothic metal bands:
My Dying Bride
Type O Negative
Tiamat
Theatre of Tragedy
The Gathering
Draconian
Paradise Lost

Out of those I've only heard Draconian's song Serenade of Sorrow. Which is 5/5.

From what I've heard, Theatre of Tradegy's great. Haven't listened to any so-called mainstream gothic bands though...

MDB and Draconian are more doomy than goth, I think, though there is a lot of overlap between the two. And yeah, most of the big ones I've heard I couldn't stand, maybe there are better ones I haven't found.

I had high expectations because Unsung Heroes was excellent. Great to see they managed to live up to those expectations.

Yeah, Draconian is hit-or-miss, but they are amazing at their best. "The Cry of Silence" by them is an emotional rollercoaster of a masterpiece and probably in my top five songs ever.

True. They can be perfectly described as gothic doom metal. With quite a bit of death metal influence thrown in as well for MDB, depending on the album. But in both cases, the gothic presence is undeniable.

I haven't truly loved an Ensiferum album since Victory Songs. Hopefully this one will deliver. This song sounds very promising.
