I listen to:
Slayer, Megadeth, Cannibal Corpse, Kreator, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Destruction, Sodom, Infernal War, Heaven Shall Burn, Mayhem, Gorgonoth, Annotations of an Autopsy, Annihilator, and Darkthrone

as you can see I like a HUGE variety of metal types mainly thrash metal death metal and black metal but really any metal is awesome in my opinion

A thread about metal? Brutal!!!
I basically hear to Power Metal as Rhapsody of Fire, Helloween, Emerald Sun, Avantasia, and many more. I hear Folk Metal too: Eluveitie, Turisas, Korpiklaani, Equilibrium, and bands less known as Elvenking or Saurom Lamderth. Now I´m hearing Death Metal since a few weeks, but I didn´t know a lot of groups, so I´ve come to ask you for some groups guys, if you can. Now I hear to Zonaria, Dark Tranquility, Rise to Fall... basically, melodic death.

Opeth is the best death metal band since Opeth.

This goes without saying, hopefully, but I am a huge Ozzy fan. I mean, I made a freakin’ [url=http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=34190]church[/utl] dedicated to him, man. I made a region centered around him, too. Hell, he’s even my president dude. Pretty sweet, right? Anyways, favorite albums by him would be Blizzard of Oz, No More Tears, and the recent Black Rain. But my favorite song is Junkie from Down to Earth. Big fan of other classic heavy metal bands, too.
I just want you to please note that any knowledge I show throughout NS is based off of a 3rd grade education. All this means is that I probably know absolutely nothing about any subject I post about.
Thank God for Wikipedia!

Try Death, though they're progressive; still counts, right? Err, Bathory's another big one, did some viking and almost black stuff late on though I think.

I have never understood that seemingly general dislike for power metal. Or at least it seems sort of "secret guilty pleasure" (sub)genre of metal. :/
It is my favourite genre.

It's so over the top and ridiculous. Boring too, there's no charm to it. It's not all terrible but it's just so bland.

Ummm Bathory never played death metal. They're mainly a black metal band that added some viking stuff later on, and went through a brief thrash phase. Death's first few albums are sure-fire staples of the death metal genre, and their later albums (like the fantastic album Symbolic) are more progressive and more accessible.

As for Northwestern Iberia's request, here's some great melodeath:

Starting out, you can't go wrong with the genre's big four

Bathory's one of those rare bands where almost everything they did was a 10/10.

To those who criticize power metal, I can understand that you criticize bands like Dragonforce (The slag of Power Metal) or Stratovarius, that are a shit stuck on a stick, but criticize an entire genre... this´s more serious, and is generalizing, not all the Power Metal bands´s are alike. Personally, I recognise that some bands are an incredible shit, but another bands like Rhapsody of Fire are fucking great. You must respect a little more the likes of the people, we haven´t all the sames.

I don´t know if you like Stratovarius, but for me it isn´t a very good band. They haven´t got anything in special. No one in the band is specially good, I´m not saying that is bad (For bad bands, we have Dragonforce, or Studioforce better said), and the lyrics... they have got one or two that are "good", but there are a lot of of bands that are definitively better but they aren´t as known. Maybe I did wrong saying that it is shit (For shits, I insist, we have Dragonforce), but they don´t merit all the fame they have.
