Problem is that there are plenty of fast mediums that can scout as well as a tier four scout. And packs enough of a punch to actually be a threat.
But yes, stay away from the big heavies. Hide, flank, shoot'n'scoot... Just don't try to go face-to-face with 'em...

Or one can simply hunt around and try to find lone tank destroyers and exploit the juicy flaw that is not having a turret. Worked against an ISU-152.

Sure.
Although that's a lot easier said than done, given that many tank destroyers have pretty good cam-values, likes to lurk in protected positions, and deal high alpha-damage. They can be flanked, of course, but a good player will make it pretty difficult, not to mention dangerous.
Also, tier three and four guns aren't really that great against tier seven and eight tanks. Don't know how good guns can be found on the later tanks, but in my opinion tier four scouts are generally underpowered and undergunned. I do like my M5 Stuart though, it's somewhat maneuverable and the 75 mm. troll-gun can be fun if you can get into position to use it.

I can see it now... that would explain EVERYTHING! I guess we now all have to play War Thunder, because blowing tanks up with one shell is the only true way to play tank games. Or getting hit by dive bombers, of course. WoT has a distinct lack of aerial tank hunters, which is outrageous.

WT and WOT are completely different games and I'm going to keep playing both. I'm going to rip into anyone who says either are bad without an "IMO" at the end.

I must say the whole combined arms idea kind of scares me. Not saying its going to be bad, just that I foresee a lot of matches that just turn into one sides ground force getting turned into moving target practice because their air counterparts are complete idiots

Which is, pretty much, what's happening in World of Tanks now, with players happily letting their own team-mates get turned into a smoking wreck without offering any kind of help.

But sometimes a team just works. I will happily drive my tank forwards in order to spot enemy units if I know several tank destroyers got my back. When it works, it's magic. WoT and WT alike have their fair share of utter and complete herpderpers, of course. It could be worse, though. From all the videos I've seen, it seems as if many, many Russian WoT-players prefer ramming over ballistics. Granted, it's one way to safe ammo.

and at least in WoT you normally don't have to worry about 4 teammates wasting you from behind trying to hit a target in front of you.
