Goddamnit. The developers are trying to find 10 billion reasons to make climbing the arty tree impossible. First it was the Tier 5 Uber-scouts, now it's the goddamn French tree. Imagine a tank with better-than-M24 speed and maneuverability, and stick a cannon on that fires once every 1.5-2 seconds (for 6 shots. Then it's a longer reload period).
That's every tank in the French tree with an oscillating turret.
...I'm about ready to quit this damn game...

The solution is simple, stop being arty. In all seriousness I have no clue how hard it is to be an arty, I tried a few times but just ended up acting as a front line tank with an oversized gun (it is in my blood to charge into the enemy, I come from a long line of cavalry officers dating back hundreds of years). No that is not actually true, I come from a long line of sailors and dirt farmers dating back to the 1300s.

Back on topic, I imagine that they are purposely screwing over arty because a lot of heavy tank players always complain about it. I personally don't mind arty, I look down on them for being cowards, but without them mediums and lights would just be fodder for the heavies. Someone from the forums used the analogy that they should rename the game World of Heavy Tanks if they keep making artillery weaker.

Yeah, being arty isn't all that fun, unless you have an excellent team that knows how to protect you.

Ironically, I've been called the 'least cowardly arty player they've seen in a while'.
Let it suffice to say that when I get a Bison for the lulz, I use it for what it is: an oversized TD.
Higher up the tiers, though, I can't really do that too well, due to poor HP and armor comparisons.

The other day my Hetzer bounced a few arty rounds. The other team was not happy. Then I got hit in the side by another Hetzer. Pretty fun match.

Hetz with 10.5cm is good for lulz, especially when it's top tank in a match.
That way, you can use AP and rack up the OHKOs.
Or HEAT. But that's not cool.

I find it odd with these American Tank Destroyers, the words 'Ammo Rack' or 'Fire' do not belong here. For all time I've had the T25 AT, I've never had a detonation, and I've only lit up at least once or twice.
Anyone else in this thread play the American TD line?

Yep, currently up to the Slugger.

Aren't they planning to move the T30 over to the TD line at some point in the future?

I got Reaper.

That was a good day.

That's cool. Thanks, guys.

I once shot a löwe and an object 704 with mine, that was both the first lówe I killed and a great match. first win of the day too :p

Lost a game because a TD on full health a stone's throw from our base moved in the opposite direction when a KV on 25% health was capturing it despite everyone telling him to go deal with it.

Only other guy left on our team was an M37 Priest who followed through with his threat of shooting the guy for not listening.

Pretty funny.

I had a game in my Panzer II, a low level thing with my housemate in his Russian level 2, whereby one on our side destroyed two on our side before turning his gun on me. I got him, but another dude also was shooting our stuff.

Mad.

Due to the sheer expense of the E-50's 10,5cm rounds, I managed to end a winning game with profits of 3 credits.

I'm yet to work out whether the 8,8cm is better or worse than the 10,5cm. The 10,5cm hits harder, but the 8,8cm fires faster.

And its shells are roughly half the cost.

Can anyone tell me what exactly the advantages of a tank destroyer are over a tank?

I'm considering buying one, but I'm wondering if there are a few solid advantages, not just personal preferences.

Well, a lot of them are a lot lower, they tend to mount more powerful guns, are quicker reloading and they have an inherent camoflague ability. There are also differences between the national ones - the American tank destroyers of level 5 and 6 also possess turrets, the Russian ones tend to be more hard-hitting whilst the German ones are usually better armoured.

I also like a few of the German panzerjagers, such as the Hetzer and the Jagdpanzer IV.

My main gripe against the Jagdpanzer IV is that it is the Vomag variant, rather than the Alkett one, which I prefer the look of.

the russian TD's are for the first 3 tiers about as well armoured as an SPG, with Maaaayyybe 20 mm front armour without any slope.
after that they start to get proper sloped armour, less frontal armour then the german tanks, but they also get side armour which the germans don't have.
further differences between german and soviet TD's are that soviet guns hit harder, but are less accurate then the german ones. given that i don't play allies, I have no clue how they relate to their TD's.
