Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2!!!

Postby Lyoneau » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:46 pm

Spoiler Alert!!! If you haven't seen the movie or read the book, you might not want to read this thread, so the story isn't ruined for you.

I just got back from seeing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2!!! I honestly really liked it..... and I'm not just saying that because there was a lot of explosions :P

Now I'm a Harry Potter fan, so I might be a little biased. I loved it because the whole plot of the Deathly Hallows as well as the whole series is really good. I would give this movie a 9/10. But that's just my personal opinion. I liked the effects too. I read the book again (probably the 3rd time lol) last year, and even thought I knew what was going to happen and I pretty much had it memorized, I still loved the movie. I was waiting for so long to see the battle at Hogwarts. When I read it in the book, it seemed pretty epic, and I think it was in the movie. The fight scenes were good as well. This is probably my favorite movie/book of the HP series, because I think that the battle was really awesome, and its and very exciting. My eyes (and pretty much everyone in the theater's eyes) were glued onto the screen and everyone was dead silent, concentrating on the excitement.

My favorite part of the movie-- the fight between Molly Weasley and Bellatrix Lestrange. That was a really good duel. Ginny and Bellatrix starting fighting, and when Bellatrix tried to kill Ginny, Molly jumps in and shouts "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B****!!". That duel was intense, and at the end Molly blasts Bellatrix, and that's the end of her. Everyone in the theater was clapping when Bellatrix died. It was just awesome, that part.

The only downside of the movie is that it was EXACTLY like the book. And when I say exactly, I mean exactly....right down to the little details. Now as an HP fanatic, I ,of course, know all of the little details :D Overall is was pretty similar, there were just a few parts that were left out. I was kind of sad when we didn't get to see the Ravenclaw common room :( In the book, Harry and Luna go looking for the Diadem of Ravenclaw in there first. It was described well in the book, but I really wanted to see it. They also didn't mention what happened to Neville afterwards in the movie. In the epilogue in the book, he becomes the new Herbology Professor at Hogwarts. They didn't say that in the movie. They also didn't say anything about Professor McGonagall becoming Headmistress of Hogwarts in the end. Now if you were an HP fan and/or read the books, you would probably already know this and you would know she was Deputy Headmistress under Dumbledore, so naturally she would take the position of Headmistress when Dumbledore dies (after Snape, however, who takes over Hogwarts once Dumbledore does die). But for an average person who's seen the movies and maybe read a book or two (but not totally obsessed like some of us :D ), they probably wouldn't know what would happen. They also didn't say much about Dumbledore's Army during the movie, which was kind of important in the book. But other than that, the rest was pretty much like the book, and I still found the movie to be entertaining and good.

So NSG..... What are your thoughts/comments/opinions on the movie? Did you see it yet? Did you like it? Anything you thought was good/bad? Let the discussion begin!

It was good. I think that they cut out some things, but they did a good job of putting the book to life.

Voldamort wouldn't have died if he had moisturiser. Also, why does harry try to kill voldemort by throwing him off a cliff when voldemort can fly?
And love the bit where harry hallucinates and gandalf appears. Marvelous.

He doesn't hallucinate. He's in "limbo". He basically "died", but he's in a place where the dead choose to either return as ghosts or go to heaven or whatever. But since he's a horcrux of Voldemort, he can actually choose to return in full form.

Weird stuff, huh.

I look forward to seeing it, I'm a big fan of the books but the only movie I've seen is the first part of HP and the Deathly Hallows.
Hopefully Part 2 won't disappoint me like Part 1 did. :(

You only read it three times? And you call yourself a fan! :p

I suppose I'm not the biggest fan either because I haven't seen the movie yet. But only because I had to be at school when the premiere tickets went on sale! :( That, and I had no money on my card! haha

Good:
*McGonagall was fantastic!
*Snape picked up Lily's books...so cute...They did the memory thing well.
*The Resurrection Stone scene and the epilogue.

Bad:
*Harry saying goodbye to Ron and Hermione was a huge mistake. That was left out of the books for a reason.
*The existences of Teddy and Ariana were both mentioned, but without enough backstory for either of those families' subplots to make sense without knowing the books. Tell the full story or cut them altogether.

Well that was only the 7th book!!!! :P I read the others about 4-6 times lol. I think the first one I read about 5 times since it was so short, but the 7th is pretty long. :D

I had to buy my tickets a week in advance online

I totally agree with the good part. I really liked Professor McGonagall in this one. I didn't really think much about Harry saying goodbye though. And I agree on the second part to the bad. The book gave a lot more to the story, but then again, they have to put all of that into a 2 hour movie :P So although its saddening that they left some stuff out, they kind of have to. Even when they did cut out parts it was still kind of long, but overall good :)

Wait, another important plot hole--did they ever explain why Harry could come back to life?!

Never was into the Harry Potter books. I read about 10-20 pages of the first one and gave up afterwards. So I'm not about to see the second part of the last movie about a book series I never read. I mean, if you could ever get lost in a plot, this would be the time, seeing as though--

Zwangzug wrote:Wait, another important plot hole--did they ever explain why Harry could come back to life?!

Yeah they kind of did when Harry went into Dumbledore's office and got that memory-water thingy. He poured Snape's tears into it and learned all about what happened to his parents, and what happened on the night they died and he got the scar, as well as Dumbledore's plans, etc. He also learned that on the night he got the scar, the curse that Voldemort used to try to kill Harry rebounded and backfired, and it damage a part of Voldemort's soul. That part of his soul went into Harry, the reason why Harry is a Parseltongue and Voldemort and him are able to look into each other's minds. Harry was the 7th horcrux that Voldemort never intended to make.

So when Voldemort tried using the Killing curse to kill Harry, Voldemort really killed a part of his own soul that was in Harry. So he didn't kill Harry's soul. That's why he was in pain after he used the curse (the part when Harry comes back from that afterlife scene with Dumbledore, Voldemort is on the ground in pain and Bellatrix is trying to help him).

So that's why Harry was able to live. It wasn't his soul that was killed. In fact Harry learns that he must face Voldemort and must die in order to be able to kill Voldemort, so no other part of his soul lives on. It was explained better in the books, but the movie did alright getting that part in. In the movie it was really like a "connect the dots" sort of thing. It was all there for you, you just had to put in together.

I actually found it to be an excellent movie, minus the cheesy epilouge.

It was one of those films that I knew was good, but it sort of passed by in such a way that I can't judge it very well.
However, I freakin' loved the bit when Kingsley Shacklebolt immobilised one unruly Death Eater who tried to attack him, in mid-air, then threw him flying back out the window he came from.

I am a huge Potterfan, and this was probably my most anticipated film of 2011. In the end, it didn't disappoint. It was a roller coaster ride almost from start to finish, with a lot of great scenes. However, the film was not perfect. I missed some scenes, and some changes just didn't make any sense. The most important is Harry snapping the elder wand near the end. Shouldn't he repair his own broken wand first, like he did in the book?
Also, Tonks and Lupin got far too little screen time. This is nothing new, but their relationship was cut almost completely, and their son is only mentioned when they are already dead. Also Harry being the godfather is not mentioned at all. Plus, like mentioned before, Harry saying goodbye to Ron and Hermione. This should have ruined his plan. He was determined to die, and speaking to Ron and Hermione would have shattered his resolve. He only told Neville the snake had to die. He even ignored Ginny when he walked outside. Very significant, but not in the film, sadly. I also didn't care much for the extended fight between Harry and Voldemort. The showdown in the book was much more impressive. And Neville's moment was luckily still present, but I would have liked him saying to Voldemort 'I'll join you when hell freezes over. Dumbledore's Army!'
The euphoria after Harry finished off Voldy was also absent, and the atmosphere in the film felt wrong. They only just won the war, ended it! Grieving is important of course, but I think the grieving would set in later.

Okay, a lot of criticism, but overall it is a great film, and a worthy end to the franchise. My rating is 9 out of 10. This is higher then Half Blood Prince (8,5) and Deathly Hallows Part 1 (8,75).
98% of all internet users would cry if facebook would break down, if you are part of that 2% who simply would sit back and laugh then copy and paste this into your sig.
