I didn't listen to Watershed but I know how shitty a drummer can be if he knows shit about dynamics.

True, actually. He is a Metal drummer through and through, and it appears he has difficulty with grasping some of Opeth's more layered music.

Plus, Blackwater Park was most definately not the last album before deciding to prog out. Harvest, off Blackwater Park, was their first song with no unclean vocals. Their next album, Deliverance, was their heaviest to date. Afterwards, Damnation, was where they progged out.

Deliverance and Damnation were meant to be a double album, though, so Damnation should have been written around the time of Deliverance. They basically tried to please everyone.

Well, actually, he wanted the album to be heavy, initially, bu he also had written mellow things on the side, and wanted to do something with those. Thus, his friend suggested the double album idea. And then, the record company suggested they make them two seperate albums. But my point remains that Blackwater Park was indeed the first album with a completely clean track.

The remainder of the album, however, was epically heavy.

They are metalheads who only like extreme metal.

Such as you? Minus Tool?

In most cases, but I've admitted to listening to some metalcore, some deathcore, power metal, Mastodon, Sludge, Stoner Metal (The Sword is not extreme, but they are very good), some NWOBHM and some Mathcore.

And yes, I like Tool too.

Couldn't sludge and stoner metal technically be counted as extreme metal, being fusion genres of doom?

I did like new jack swing back in the Nineties, if liking Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It" counts as one.

Anyone remember that genre?

My friends' music elitism has become so contagious that I look down my nose at those who listen to mainstream heavy metal, despite not actually liking my friends' music either.

For the win. I'll ease you into it, Meryuma will give you some more obscure stuff, and Demen and Soviet will blow your fucking brains out. :D Flawless three-step plan to getting into Metal.

EDIT: And you obviously know Demen can help, his post count being 666 and all. :p
